2024 Summer Intern - Functional Genomics
Department Summary
Our Functional Genomics department leads the way in developing comprehensive functional genomics screening assays across intricate model systems. These endeavors bolster our target discovery efforts within gRED. We invite applications from driven and talented individuals for a summer intern position. This role will contribute to identifying and validating new cancer dependencies via our high-throughput genomics assays. Although the focus is computational, the successful candidate will have exposure to both wet-lab and dry-lab environments.
This internship position is located in South San Francisco, CA onsite.
Key Responsibilities
Process, analyze, and provide interpretations for our NGS-based screening data in alignment with scientific goals.
Document methodologies and code effectively to ensure replicability of work during and after the internship.
Shadow scientists in the lab to learn how the data is collected.
Prepare and present findings for discussions with internal and external collaborators.
Program Highlights
Intensive 12-week, full-time (40 hours per week) paid internship.
Program start dates are in May/June (Summer)
A stipend, based on location, will be provided to help alleviate costs associated with the internship.
Design detailed project objectives tailored to the candidate\xe2\x80\x99s strengths, aiming for substantial contributions to a robust bioinformatics pipeline of patent or publication quality.
Ownership of challenging and impactful business-critical projects.
Work with some of the most talented people in the biotechnology industry.
Participate in Genentech internship program events and activities
Who You Are (Required)
Required education:
You meet one of the following criteria:
Must be pursuing a Bachelor\'s Degree (enrolled student)
Must be pursuing a Master\'s Degree (enrolled student)
Must be pursuing a PhD (enrolled student)
Required majors:
Genetics, Molecular, Cancer, Computational Biology or related fields
Required skills:
Familiarity with sequencing-based transcriptomics and epigenomics approaches such as RNA-seq, and ATAC-seq
Proficiency in at least one high-level programming language (like R or Python) within a high-performance computing (HPC) environment
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with single-cell genomics assays
Expertise in machine learning, particularly sequence-based approaches
Excellent communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills

The expected salary range for this position based on the primary location for this position in California is $45.00 - $50.00 per hour. Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law. This position also qualifies for paid holiday time off benefits.
