Job Description


:Delta Dental is seeking three highly motivated and analytically driven Actuarial Interns to join our team for the summer. This 3-month paid internship offers an excellent opportunity to gain hands-on experience in the dental insurance industry, supporting our actuarial team in risk assessment, pricing strategies, and financial forecasting.Responsibilities:

  • Assist in developing actuarial models to evaluate risk, pricing, and financial outcomes for dental insurance products.
  • Analyze data to identify trends, patterns, and anomalies impacting pricing and forecasting.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (Underwriting, Finance, Product Development) to optimize product offerings and ensure alignment with company objectives.
  • Review and analyze regulatory filings and industry benchmarks to maintain compliance with industry standards.
  • Contribute to the improvement of actuarial processes by identifying opportunities and recommending solutions.
  • Use SQL to extract data for client-specific, provider network, and book-of-business analytics/reporting.
  • Automate, build, and maintain self-service tools and dashboards for internal and external stakeholders.
Qualifications:
  • Currently pursuing a bachelor's or master's degree in actuarial science, mathematics, statistics, data science, computer science, or a related field. Undergraduate students - student entering their junior or senior year is preferred.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
  • Experience with query languages and statistical software (SQL, R, SAS, or Python) is a plus.
  • Power BI experience is a plus.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills, with the ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Strong mathematical and statistical foundation with attention to detail.
  • Ability to work full-time (Monday-Friday, 8:30 a.m.-5:30 p.m., with a 1-hour lunch).
  • Hybrid internship based in Oakland, CA.
  • Interns must work on-site Monday-Friday for the first few weeks, with the option to work remotely 1-2 days per week thereafter.
Base Pay Information:The national base pay range for this role is a good faith estimate of what Delta Dental may pay for new hires. Actual pay may vary based on Delta Dental's assessment of the candidate's knowledge, skills, abilities (KSAs), related experience, education, certifications, and ability to meet required minimum job qualifications. Other factors impacting pay include prevailing wages in the work location and internal equity. The estimated pay range is $25-$28.85/hour.About Us: Behind the smile!
