Position Title: Teacher - English Language (EL) Instructor

Summary of the position:

Under general supervision, English Language Teacher, also known as EL Teacher, serves as a specialist for students who are learning English as a second language. The EL teacher works in a program designed to provide direct English Language Development instruction in the classroom, small groups and/or individual student settings. In addition to this specific individualized instruction, the EL teacher will assist general education classroom teachers with selection of appropriate curricula and the development of appropriate strategies to meet the unique needs of English Learners. The EL teacher will follow the regulations associated ELD standards and reporting requirements that pertain to Title III. The EL teacher works under the supervision of the Senior Director of Learning and Title Programs.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:



Meet district, state, and federal requirements (i.e., Title III and NESP grant, EL accountability), including: Displays knowledge of procedures, policies, and regulations, incorporates requirements into work habits, follows procedures, maintains proper and sufficient documentation. Conduct specialized student assessments and evaluations, including: is well-versed in a multitude of measurement techniques, selects appropriate measurement tools, is accurate and complete in clerical aspects of measurement, clearly communicates analysis of results and recommendations clearly. Consults with colleagues to develop plan that guides appropriate instruction, including: works effectively as a member of a team, contributes creative solutions to problems, assumes case management responsibilities when necessary, uses training and experience to support classroom instruction. Provides effective direct services to students, families, and colleagues, including: takes initiative, displays unconditionally positive regard for individuals from a wide variety of backgrounds, displays flexibility in the nature and location of services provided, communicates skillfully to each audience. Creates and/or coordinates school-wide or community programs to support students and families, including: demonstrates thorough knowledge of a variety of developmental assets, resiliency/protective factors, and related community supports, engages in a variety of activities to create programs that support students and families, evaluates intended outcomes of programs created. Participates in professional in-service and ongoing training to further develop specialized skills. Fulfills all other duties as assigned.

The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
