Job Title: Accountant II- Grants Management

Job Summary: To perform accounting and financial service functions for grants and other sponsored program funds. The position is part of the Office of Sponsored Programs Post-Award Division and provides fiscal service and support for both central office departments as well as individual university personnel. These functions include: conducting financial analyses, reviewing/monitoring of individual grants and transactions for compliance with private, local, state and federal fund requirements, billing and collections, journal entries, and financial grant reporting for granting authorities.

Education & Experience

Bachelor\'s Degree in Accounting or related field and one (1) year related experience or completion of a post-baccalaureate accounting certificate program and one (1) year related experience. Experience cannot be substituted for educational requirement.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Knowledge of standard accounting principles, concepts, and procedures. Skill in the use of personal computers and related financial and/or accounting software applications, including Microsoft Excel. Verbal and written communication skills. Interpersonal skills. Ability to analyze and interpret financial data and prepare financial reports.

Responsibilities:
  • Researches issues, prepares invoices/ billings and collects funds for the support of restricted fund expenditures.
  • Prepares or assists in the preparation of all applicable fiscal reports for sponsored programs and ensures the timely submission thereof.
  • Coordinates with key personnel at all levels of the organization to support proper and timely expenditure of grant funds in compliance with applicable guidelines and budget deadlines.
  • Develops positive working relationships to foster a collaborative environment for grant coordination and oversight.
  • Stays abreast of the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) Circulars and their applicability to grant management related audit, federal regulations, state laws and District policies, and any workshops or seminars on grants or special revenues.
  • Compiles reports, supporting documentation, and analysis as needed to assist management with audits.
  • Reviews transactions to ensure compliance with private, local, state and federal fund requirements as well as institutional policy.

Requires exposure to bio-hazardous conditions such as risk of radiation exposure, blood borne pathogens, fumes or airborne particles, and/or toxic or caustic chemicals which mandate attention to safety considerations, frequent activities subject to significant volume changes of a seasonal/clinical nature, frequent work produced subject to precise measures of quantity and quality, frequent bending, occasional lifting and carrying up to 50 pounds, occasional crouching/stooping, occasional kneeling, occasional pushing/pulling, frequent reaching, constant sitting, frequent standing, occasional twisting, and frequent walking.
