The University of Southern Maine\'s Disability Service Center is looking for an Administrative Specialist to join their dynamic team!

For this Administrative Specialist position, the starting rate of pay will be $17.69/hour for a new hire or the appropriate transfer rate for a current employee with the University of Maine System. This position is full-time, working 8:00AM - 4:30PM, Monday - Friday. This position is located on the Portland Campus.

The Administrative Specialist CL2 performs administrative work to facilitate ADA accommodations for students with disabilities. Responsibilities of the position are essential to maintain compliance with federal and state disability laws. Support services for students with disabilities include, but are not limited to, assisting with coordination of test taking and note taking services, and assisting with the production of materials in alternate format. A strong ability to maintain confidentiality is essential as this person works with personal records, medical releases, and communicates daily with students, faculty, and staff. In addition to providing general office support to the Director and the Disability Service Center (DSC) staff responsibilities also include:

  • Daily use of the Accommodate to schedule appointments, distribute accommodation letters, and update student information.
  • Serves as the primary contact for all internal and external requests and exercising judgment in routing incoming office traffic and communications correctly.
  • Consult with other DSC staff to triage incoming requests.
  • Assist new students and families with navigating the initial process of requesting housing and academic accommodations.
  • Support the Accommodation Coordinator with all aspects of the exam administration and proctoring process.
  • Coordination of the DSC presence at university events such as undergraduate and graduate orientations and student activity fairs.
  • Collaborate with other DSC team members to complete DSC projects.
  • Running reports through Accommodate as requested.
  • Update DSC website.
  • Assist with processing of alternative textbooks as needed.This position provides a terrific opportunity to pursue a Bachelor\'s or advanced degree through the university\'s generous tuition waiver benefit.

Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or equivalent (G.E.D.) or international degree equivalency
  • 2+ years of administrative support experience
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills
  • Demonstrated computer proficiency
