Inspects, maintains, constructs, and repairs municipal airfield.
Essential Functions
Maintain the airfield in accordance with Federal Aviation Administration standards. Facilities include all runways, taxiways, ramps, airfield lighting, security gates and fences, roadways, safety areas, and associated navigation aids;
Inspect airfield to ensure compliance with Federal Aviation Regulations 1542 and 139. Conduct on-going safety inspections during airfield construction projects;
Repair and maintain paved surfaces on runways, taxiways, and aprons. Construct and maintain asphalt surfaces such as airfield roads. Operate equipment to perform snow and ice removal;
Inspect runways and taxiways for pavement damage, obstructions, standing water, etc. Inspect airfield lighting system to detect circuit breaks and non-illuminated fixtures. Notify proper authorities of airfield hazards;
Monitor weather conditions, maintain aircraft landing and maneuvering surfaces clear of ice and snow;
Test power cables, work with high voltage lighting system (2400 volts) to determine cable breaks. Replace worn cables and transformers. Maintain circuit regulating equipment. Repair and maintain airfield lighting fixtures including airport beacon;
Maintain general knowledge of high voltage electrical system operations and safety requirements;
Construct and maintain airport perimeter fences and gates. Maintain painted markings on airport runways and taxiways. Mow and maintain nonpaved areas of airfield;
Interact with tenants, contractors, FAA inspectors, and other airport users in the conduct of day-to-day duties;
Perform related duties as required.
Qualifications
Completion of a high school diploma with an additional three years experience related to airfield, highway, street or comparable maintenance work, or heavy equipment operation; or any combination of relevant education and experience which provides the following:
Physical Exam Required Possession of Commercial Driver\'s License, or ability to obtain within three months
Knowledge and Abilities
Knowledge of:
Materials, methods, and equipment used in the maintenance of the airport facilities.
Ability to:
Operate trucks, maintainers, backhoes, front-end loaders, and similar equipment;
Perform routine plumbing, vehicle service and maintenance, welding, and carpentry;
Perform concrete and asphalt work;
Perform maintenance of airfield lighting system with proper training and in accordance with safety procedures;
Read instructions and write in order to complete reports;
Communicate effectively with others.
Physical Requirements
Frequently lift up to 25 pounds
Occasionally lift and carry up to 100 pounds
Continuously stand and walk during and shift
Occasionally bend and kneel during a shift
Occasionally push and pull objects
Flex upper trunk forward at the waist, and flex partially at the knees
Move in a crawling motion in order to work under vehicles
Rotate upper trunk to the right or left while sitting or standing
Coordinate eye, hand and foot movement in order to operate various types of vehicles and machinery
