Job Duties

The Anatomical Program Director is responsible for managing and operating the Virginia State Anatomical program. This position will require independent management and technical supervision of the statewide program to include planning, organizing, and supervising operations as well as establishing and maintaining quality assurance programs, proficiency testing, and technical reviews. This position will manage a program budget, supervise professional staff, monitor laboratory services for efficiency and compliance to applicable regulations. Position requires considerable knowledge in scientific principles of embalming and funeral services, analytical methods, and is responsible for the direction of subordinate managers and professional staff, program operations, and budgets.

The Virginia State Anatomical Program, established in 1919, is the only program in Virginia authorized to receive donations of human bodies for scientific study. The primary mission of VSAP is to educate health professionals by providing human donors for the teaching of anatomy and surgery and medical research to the State\'s medical schools, colleges, universities, and research facilities.

Minimum Qualifications

-Knowledge of and experience with long-term, dead body chemical preservation practices and anatomy

-Knowledge of basic medical science, the cadaver decomposition process and human anatomy

-Experience with long term embalming techniques to prepare bodies for scientific study

-Knowledge of dead body transport criteria, cremation laws, funeral services, and death certification requirements and processes

-Demonstrated knowledge and/or experience as a business manager performing program and administrative management to allow for independent functioning, including HR, supervision, purchasing, financial management, maintenance of fixed assets and facility management

-Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to interact effectively with diverse constituents and graduate level university medical anatomy and PhD science program directors

-Valid state driver\'s license is required to operate a state vehicle

Additional Considerations

-Master\'s level education in health care administration, health sciences or equivalent experience combined with education

-Strong computer skills

-Related experience in a government or health care setting

-Experience in team and program development leadership
