Applied Physics Tenure at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard

Salary: $60,920 - $84,711*

The faculty in this position will teach the Applied Physics series at the Puget Sound Naval Shipyard (PSNS). Office hours will be at the Puget Sound Naval Shipyard.

Olympic College is recruiting a full-time, tenure-track faculty to join the physics team and teach Applied Physics at the Puget Sound Naval Shipyard (PSNS). The team of three full-time and 3-5 adjunct faculty work collaboratively to offer the Applied Physics curriculum to PSNS apprentice students.

A comprehensive community college, we offer instruction in Basic Studies to include awarding a high school diploma, GED preparation, and English to Speakers of Other Languages; academic transfer and workforce education degrees and certificates; four applied baccalaureate degrees, and community education in our two-county region.

Essential Functions

  • Teach four-week quarters or other schedules as needed
  • Provide class syllabi to students enrolled in classes by the first day of classes and to the division office as requested.
  • Identify individual learning needs of students and make appropriate adjustments in learning environments and activities;
  • Provide student advising for career/academic pathways, mentoring, and support; Contribute to the development of curriculum and student learning outcomes; Contribute to the assessment of student learning outcomes;
  • Punctual communication with students, faculty, staff, and administrators; Maintain physical office hours for student consultation;
  • Attend faculty, department, and division meetings and serve on college committees; Perform other related duties as assigned and/or required.
Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications
  • Master\'s degree in physics or related field
  • Successful teaching experience
Desired Qualifications
  • Community college teaching experience
  • Experience developing competency-based curriculum.
  • Experience using an online learning management system.
  • Experience teaching online.

Additional Information

Terms of Employment

This is a full-time faculty position contracted on an annual basis. Placement on the faculty salary schedule will be commensurate with educational background and experience. The salary will be prorated to reflect the actual contract days remaining in the academic year. The salary listed is a range based on per month for the quarter. A collective bargaining agreement exists, and this position is covered by the Association for Higher Education (AHE). Flexibility is required to meet the needs of the department. Evening and/or weekend classes, instruction at satellite Olympic College campuses, and off-campus assignments may be a part of the instructional load.
