Archeology Technician







Position Summary



This position is located on the Arapaho and Roosevelt National Forests and Pawnee National Grassland (ARP), a unit of the U.S. Forest Service. The successful candidate will perform cultural resources-related work under the supervision of the ARP Heritage Program Zone Archaeologists. The position requires experience conducting archaeological fieldwork, including field survey and site recording, and proficiency using a compass and GPS.

Key Duties and Responsibilities



The Selected Candidate selects, interprets, and applies technical guidelines to analyze archeological data and prepares site forms to document findings. The Candidate performs on-the-ground area surveys for surface and subsurface evidence of historic and prehistoric archaeological remains, identifies and records historic and prehistoric cultural resources, and assists with the preparation of reports about the nature and extent of known cultural resources. In addition, they will search historical records and examine the findings of other archeological experts relative to the history of the area and utilize ArcGIS software (ArcGIS Pro and ArcGIS Online) to analyze data and prepare maps for site forms and reports.





Marginal Duties



May engage in interpretation and historic preservation projects for historic properties listed in the National Register of Historic Places.





Required Qualifications



Working towards or completed a Bachelor's degree in anthropology/archaeology (or related field), OR One year of technical archaeological work experience equivalent to the GS-4 level, OR A combination of technical archaeological work experience and education that provided equivalent knowledge or training as above.





This SCA Position is authorized under the Public Land Corps Authority. All participants must be between the ages of 16 and 30, inclusive, or veterans age 35 or younger. Participants must also be a citizen or national of the United States or lawful permanent resident alien of the United States. Hours served can be applied toward the Public Land Corps (PLC) hiring authority.





Preferred Qualifications



GIS experience is desired but not required. On-the-job training will be provided.





Hours



40 per week





Living Accommodations



Government housing may be available. The position is located in Fort Collins, Colorado where there are additional housing options. Housing allowance of $400/month provided.





Compensation



Living Allowance - $600/week Housing Allowance - $400/month Travel Allowance - $1,100 single payment $2,817 Americorps Education Award Eligible

All allowances are subject to applicable federal, state, and local taxes.
