Heidelberg Materials is seeking an Area Safety & Health Manager to join our team in Georgia. As an Area Safety & Health Professional you will be responsible for implementing the organization\'s Safety and Health (S&H) programs and initiatives for the Southeast Aggregate and Ready-Mix Concrete Operations in Georgia. This position will report directly to the Director of Safety and Health.

What You\'ll Get to Do

  • Implement and support all S&H systems and programs, including training, inspections/audits, industrial hygiene, implementation of company S&H policies, accident investigation/reporting and regulatory compliance programs.
  • Provide ongoing S&H support and continually raise the level of Safety awareness and training of Plant management, Employees and Contractors.
  • Provide ongoing S&H support/facilitation of management driven Safety Audits/Risk Assessments and work collaboratively with Operations to ensure sustainable solutions are implemented.
  • Collaboratively work with Operations in ensuring compliance with statutory requirements, company policies and practices with regards to safety standards.
  • Lead local rollout of corporate safety initiatives.
  • Work as a liaison with Local, State and Federal regulatory agencies (MSHA, OSHA, etc.).
  • Manage Workers\xe2\x80\x99 Compensation, General Liability and Auto claims.
  • Continuous interpretation and compliance planning for regulatory requirements.
  • Work closely with Area Environmental Managers to ensure a team approach is used to effectively monitor all ESH activities.
  • Other duties and tasks, including travel, as necessary and/or assigned to effectively carry out job responsibilities and maximize the effectiveness of this position.
  • 75% - 90% local travel within the assigned area.
  • 5% travel outside assigned area.
What We Are Looking For:
  • Bachelor of Science Degree in related field AND/ OR a minimum of 7-10 years of relevant safety experience, preferably in Mining, Heavy Manufacturing or Construction environment.
  • Extensive working knowledge of MSHA, OSHA and DOT rules and requirements is REQUIRED.
  • Experience with Worker\xe2\x80\x99s Compensation laws and Injury Case Management.
  • Experience and competence in developing and implementing key (Training, Incident Investigation, Audit etc.) aspects of an industry leading Safety and Health program.
  • Strong management, communication and influencing skills from Management to Plant level employees.
  • Competent in coaching, teaching, and presenting.
  • Ability to form, facilitate and maintain internal and cross functional teams and relationships.
  • Competent in Federal, State and Local S&H regulations and the regulatory agencies governing the assigned facilities.
  • Competent in Microsoft Office software including Word and Excel.
  • Safety Accreditations such as CMSP or CSP are a plus.
Will regularly be exposed to each of the following:
  • Employee must be able to function in an office environment as well as the company\xe2\x80\x99s industrial environment, including the environmental conditions described below and the physical demands of working/auditing at the plant level (standing, walking, sitting, stooping, kneeling, climbing, crouching, or crawling)
  • Employee is required to sit, reach with hands and arms, talk, and hear
  • Occasional use of personal protective equipment, including a respirator
  • Specific vision abilities required by the position include:
  • Close vision (clear vision at 20 inches or less)
  • Distance vision (clear vision at 20 feet or more)
  • Color vision (ability to identify and distinguish colors)
  • Peripheral vision (ability to observe an area that can be seen up and down or to the left and right while eyes are fixed on a given point)
  • Depth perception (three-dimensional vision, ability to judge distances and spatial relationships)
  • Ability to adjust focus (ability to adjust the eye to bring an object into sharp focus)
  • Will frequently be exposed to plant environment conditions which include:
  • Wet or humid conditions
  • Working near moving mechanical parts
  • Working at height, sometimes in precarious places
  • Fumes or airborne particles
  • Toxic or caustic chemicals
  • Outdoor weather conditions
  • Extreme cold and extreme heat (non-weather)
  • Industrial risks like those experienced by operations personnel including noise, dust, electrical and machine risks, large equipment and vehicles, and occasional work in enclosed spaces.
