Job purpose

The Asphalt Milling Machine Operator is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of the milling machine. Travel required 25% - 100% depending on the job site location.

Duties and responsibilities

• Operate equipment in accordance with company procedures and safety regulations
• Monitor the operational condition of the mill, check for loose parts, ensure that machine is operating properly, and that machine is kept clean and maintained daily
• Check all fluid levels daily and perform daily walk-around inspection, to include greasing as necessary, when operating equipment
• Must have the ability to hold a straight line while watching for overhead obstructions
• Set the milling machine to the correct removal depth per job specifications
• Use hand and foot controls to maneuver the mill and operate all functions of the machine
• Maintain communication using hand signals with laborers and ground operators around the milling machine
• Start and stop the milling machine by progressing from and two zero depth at the start and end of the mill site
• Operate the equipment in the right direction and angles to prevent accidents and damage of property
• Operate equipment in various situations, maintaining proper awareness of one s surroundings
• Report needs for large repairs to appropriate parties
• All other duties as assigned, delegated, or necessary for operations

Qualifications

• Experience operating heavy equipment required (experience on a milling machine a plus, willing to train)
• Experience operating multiple pieces of construction equipment is preferred
• Must be willing and able to travel for work in eastern Montana, eastern Wyoming, and western North Dakota
• Ability to pass a pre-employment urine drug test and comply with drug and alcohol policies during employment

Working conditions

• Outdoor environment subject to changing conditions and temperatures
• Occasional exposures to fumes, dust, odors, heights, and loud noises
• May be required to work 65+ hours, 6 days a week

Physical requirements

• Verbal, auditory, and written capabilities to effectively communicate in an articulate manner
• Clarity of vision at varying distances to perform various work assignments
• Standing, walking, or sitting for extended periods of time
• Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a variety of specialized tools and equipment
• Reaching overhead, above the shoulders, and horizontally
• Occasional bending, kneeling, or crouching
• Lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling object(s) weighing up to 50 pounds
