As an integral member of our Paving Team, you will be responsible for operating asphalt paving equipment to ensure efficient and high-quality paving operations. You will work closely with the Foreman or Leadman, following instructions, and prioritizing safety while delivering exceptional results. We are seeking a dedicated individual who is proactive in identifying and addressing safety concerns, takes pride in their workmanship, and contributes to the overall success of our crew.
What you will do:
Perform assigned responsibilities and general tasks as instructed by the Foreman or Leadman.
Maintain a safe working environment and promptly report any unsafe practices or substandard quality of work.
Contribute to the overall quality of the paving project by actively engaging in all aspects of the work. Adhere to "Pave by the Numbers".
Assist in layout and movement of the paver as required.
Conduct visual safety inspections to identify leaks or damage before operating the equipment.
Complete daily equipment inspections, submit inspection sheets to the foreman, and perform routine maintenance to ensure safe and proper functioning of the equipment. Notify the supervisor of any maintenance or repair needs.
Adjust conveyor speed and tunnel gates to maintain a proper head of material in front of the screed.
Signal and direct truck drivers regarding overhead items.
Check, clean, and maintain the hopper grizzly.
Operate the equipment to achieve straight lines and maintain a suitable paving speed in coordination with truck delivery.
Understand and prevent segregation issues related to the operation of the paving machine.
Possess general knowledge of hydraulic and electrical systems of the paver.
Maintain cleanliness of the paver and prepare the roller for transportation or maintenance.
Clear any asphalt clean-out piles in the paver parking areas.
Perform any additional duties assigned by the supervisor.
What you will need:
(Minimum qualifications)
Two (2) years of asphalt paving experience (preferred).
Strong leadership skills to effectively motivate and manage subordinates, fostering a safe and productive work environment.
Physical ability to meet the demands of the job.
Team-oriented mindset with excellent written and oral communication skills.
Demonstrated ability to multitask, meet deadlines, and maintain strong organizational skills.
Professional and respectful engagement with colleagues.
Ability to work collaboratively and establish positive peer relationships.
Work Schedule and Compensation:
The typical shift for this position is during the day, with occasional weekend and/or night shifts based on job scheduling and weather conditions. Compensation will be based on experience.
