The Overlake School seeks a full-time Assistant Director of Diversity.

Description: The Assistant Director of Diversity and Inclusion will be responsible for supporting the Office of Diversity and Inclusion at the Overlake School. This position is a full-time 12-month role that reports to the Director of Diversity and Inclusion. Under supervision of the Director of D&I, the Assistant Director of Diversity and Inclusion will support the mission and values of equity and inclusion of the Overlake School in all facets of life of school. This is a new role at the Overlake School, and we seek a skilled manager to support the integral work of the office of Diversity and Inclusion including operationalizing the new Strategic Diversity and Inclusion Plan.

Principal Duties: Shares responsibility with the Director of D&I for all matters relating to diversity, equity, justice, and inclusion for students, families, faculty, staff, and other constituencies of the Overlake School and its greater community.

Student Engagement

\xc2\xb7 Works directly with students in both middle and upper school divisions to support the goals and objectives of the Office of Diversity and Inclusion

\xc2\xb7 Provides student support and programming for students in areas of Diversity and Inclusion such as affinity programs, clubs, ASB, Parliament, and other programming

\xc2\xb7 Plans and coordinates student experiences at various diversity conferences such as Student Diversity Leadership Conference (SDLC) and Student Diversity Leadership Retreat (SDLR), which includes work with students after the conferences

\xc2\xb7 Seeks and coordinates opportunities for student leaders to engage with the broader Seattle communities in diversity, equity and inclusion work

\xc2\xb7 Develops ways to support students of color and other underrepresented or marginalized communities to ensure full participation in all area of student life

School and Community Engagement

\xc2\xb7 Works with faculty, staff, and other Overlake constituencies to support the goals and objectives of the Office of Diversity and Inclusion

\xc2\xb7 Serves on multiple teams and committees that fall under the Office of Diversity and Inclusion

\xc2\xb7 Supports the Office of Diversity and Inclusion to create and implement student and school programming

\xc2\xb7 Cultivates internal community relations by maintaining engaging with all school constituencies

\xc2\xb7 Work with student-support teams to ensure that the work of inclusion and equity are part of their work. These teams include student support, admissions, and division directors.

\xc2\xb7 Collaborates with affinity groups to provide support for programming

\xc2\xb7 Supports workshops and professional development opportunities on diversity, equity and inclusion

\xc2\xb7 Represent the Office of Diversity and Inclusion at events, outreach efforts and school gatherings

Family Engagement:

\xc2\xb7 Works with families and parent volunteers to support the goals and objectives of the Office of Diversity and Inclusion

\xc2\xb7 Supports student and families for underrepresented and underserved populations at the school

\xc2\xb7 Supports students and families from the Rainier Scholars Program

\xc2\xb7 Supports families whose needs may intersect with the Office of Diversity and Inclusion

\xc2\xb7 Supports equitable family engagement of families of color and other underrepresented groups

Administrative Support:

\xc2\xb7 Planning, coordination, and logistics that are part of the work of the Office of Diversity and Inclusion

\xc2\xb7 Provides ongoing project coordination among multiple Diversity and Inclusion initiatives which includes managing timelines and project deliverables

  • Administrative duties include a variety of administrative tasks
\xc2\xb7 Supports the Diversity Strategic Plan goals and objectives

\xc2\xb7 Other duties as assigned by the Office of D&I

Candidates are encouraged to familiarize themselves with the school\'s recent adoption of its

\xc2\xb7 Diversity Strategic Plan (DSP) Statement: TOS\'s new Diversity Strategic Plan builds on Inclusion and Equity values, where students gain cultural competency and anti-racism skills they will carry as graduates. Over the next five years, there are towards which we will work. The successful candidate will be an integral part of this process and the department.

Salary: $85,000 - $95,000 Depending on Education and Experience

\xc2\xb7 Recognize and maintain confidentiality

\xc2\xb7 Demonstrate ability to solve problems and come up with innovative ideas and approaches

\xc2\xb7 Excellent capabilities in utilizing Excel and PowerPoint and other database programs; ability to learn additional software tools as needed such as Canvas and Veracross

\xc2\xb7 Flexibility, maturity, and a sense of humor

Education & Experience:

\xc2\xb7 Required bachelor\'s degree from a four-year college or university

\xc2\xb7 Experience working with students in educational settings with 5th-12th school/teaching experience preferred

\xc2\xb7 Demonstrated commitment and sustained engagement in justice, equity, and inclusion work in education and/or community organizations

\xc2\xb7 Demonstrated understanding and practices that indicate a high level of cultural competence and anti-racism; an understanding of the historical roots of individual, institutional and systemic challenges that equity and justice work seeks to address

\xc2\xb7 Experience in the development of diversity programs and community engagement

\xc2\xb7 Passing required background checks

\xc2\xb7 Fully vaccinated against Covid-19 (including booster if eligible)
