Purpose of Your Job Position

The primary purpose of your job position is to assist the Director of Nursing in all aspects of planning, organizing, developing, coordinating and directing care of residents at BHNR and also to manage the Cedar Spring Program at Bartley Healthcare Nursing and Rehabilitation for residents with Alzheimer\xe2\x80\x99s Disease and related dementia\xe2\x80\x99s. Such Management must be in accordance with current federal, state and local standards, guidelines and regulations that govern our facility, to ensure that the highest degree of quality care is maintained at all times.

Delegation of Authority

As the Assistant Director of Nursing, you are delegated the administrative authority, responsibility, and accountability necessary for carrying out your assigned duties.

Working Conditions

  • Works in office areas as well as throughout the facility.
  • Sits, stands, bends, lifts and moves intermittently during working hours.
  • May remain on feet for long periods and may walk long distances throughout the day.
  • Is subject to frequent interruptions.
  • Is involved with residents, personnel, visitors, government agencies, personnel, etc. under all conditions and circumstances.
  • Is subject to hostile and emotionally upset residents, family members, personnel, visitors, etc.
  • Communicates with the medical staff, nursing staff and other department supervisors.
  • Works beyond normal working hours, on weekends and holidays and in other positions temporarily, when necessary.
  • Attend and participate in continuing educational programs.
  • Is subject to falls, infectious diseases, odors, etc., throughout the day.
  • Maintains a liaison with the residents, their families, support personnel, etc., to adequately plan for the residents needs in relation to prevention and control of infections.
  • May be exposed to infectious waste, diseases, conditions, etc., including exposure to the AIDS and Hepatitis B viruses.
Educational Requirements

Must possess, as a minimum, a Nursing Degree from an accredited college or university, or be a graduate of an approved nursing program.

Experience

Must have, as a minimum, three (3) years experience as a supervisor in a hospital, long-term care facility, or other related health care facility which deals with Dementia patients.

Specific Requirements
  • Must possess a current, unencumbered license to practice as a RN or LPN/LVN in this state.
  • Must be able to read, write, speak and understand the English language.
  • Must possess the ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action.
  • Must possess the ability to deal tactfully with personnel, residents, family members, visitors, government agencies/personnel and the general public.
  • Must be a minimum of twenty-one (21) years of age.
  • Must be knowledgeable of nursing and medical practices and procedures, as well as laws, regulations, and guidelines that pertain to long-term care.
  • Must possess leadership ability and willingness to work harmoniously with and supervise professional and non-professional personnel.
  • Must possess the ability to plan, organize, develop, implement and interpret the programs, goals, objectives, policies and procedures, etc., that are necessary for providing quality care.
  • Must have patience, tact, a cheerful disposition and enthusiasm, as well as be willing to handle residents based on whatever maturity level they are currently functioning.
  • Must possess the ability to seek out new methods and principles and be willing to incorporate them into existing practices.
  • Must be able to relate information concerning a resident\xe2\x80\x99s condition.
Physical and Sensory Requirements

(With or Without the Aid of Mechanical Devices)
  • Must be able to move intermittently throughout the workday.
  • Must be able to speak and write the English language in an understandable manner.
  • Must be able to cope with the mental and emotional stress of the position.
  • Must possess sight/hearing senses or use prosthetics that will enable these senses to function adequately so that the requirements of the position can be fully met.
  • Must function independently, have flexibility, personal integrity, and the ability to work effectively with residents, personnel, and support agencies.
  • Must be in good health and demonstrate emotional stability.
  • Must be able to relate to and work with ill, disabled, elderly, emotionally upset, and at times hostile people within the facility.
  • Must be able to lift, push, pull and move equipment, supplies, etc. in excess of fifty (50) pounds.
  • Must be able to assist in the evacuation of residents.
