Assistant or Associate ProfessorPosted May 30, 2024Assistant or Associate ProfessorMasters of Science In Occupational Therapy (MSOT), University of Charleston, Charleston CampusPosition Summary:The faculty member will be responsible for supporting the teaching, scholarship, and service missions of the department as designated in collaboration with the Program Director. The faculty member will be responsible for providing effective learning experiences for students with diverse interests, abilities and expectations. All faculty members are expected to engage in creative and scholarly activities that support the knowledge and growth of the profession. Faculty are also expected to be involved in activities that support individuals and groups in the institution, University systems, professional associations, and/or external communities at the local, state, regional, national, or international levels. The members of the faculty are evaluated annually by the Program Director and the Dean.This 12-month position is scheduled to begin in August 2024.Essential Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and instruct courses assigned by the Program Director each academic year; maintain adequate office hours per week for the purpose of assisting and advising students. This includes development of syllabi, assignments, and handouts, grading and providing feedback to students.
  • Select, prepare, and maintain current curriculum, course outlines, and printed and non-printed instructional materials. Use learning management system to organize course materials.
  • Engage in curriculum planning and revision as needed, updating and coordinating course changes with other courses and methods of instruction.
  • Advise students; provide assistance to the students regarding up-to-date information on degrees or certificates in their educational program; maintain accurate files on each advisee; refer students, when appropriate, to sources of specialized services within the University (including student organization and/or class advisement).
  • Mentor and advise students through the scholarly project or independent study process.
  • Participate, when appropriate, in schedule building, budget input, equipment and material orders, report preparation, and the formation and meetings of program advisory boards as required by relevant policy.
  • Maintain office/discipline/division records as required by the Department, School of Health Sciences, and University.
  • Assist in timely efforts to meet program reviews and the development and implementation of accreditation guidelines with regard to student academic achievement (assessment) and their success on outcomes (institutional effectiveness).
  • Conduct all classes in accordance with an established and current course syllabus and approved textbook (and/or related instructional material). Participate in textbook adoption and review as appropriate.
  • Keep abreast of developments in the field by reading current literature, engaging in professional development activities, and networking with colleagues.
  • Engage in life-long learning in the areas including (but not limited to) higher education, student-centered learning, occupational therapy best practice, and teaching/learning technology.
  • Serve on University, School of Health Sciences, and departmental committees and attend appropriate meetings.
  • Use the appropriate policies and procedures to resolve and document student complaints, concerns, and problems.
  • Engage in productive scholarly and creative activity independently or collaboratively with others in the department, school, university, or community.
  • Faculty are expected to be active in and support national and state professional/academic organizations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Program Director, Dean, and/or Provost.
Qualifications:The ideal candidate will have the following qualifications:
  • Doctoral degree preferred; master\'s degree considered.
  • If at the master\'s degree level, faculty must be actively working toward a doctoral degree.
  • Must have a minimum of 3 years clinical experience.
  • Must be a licensed occupational therapist with a valid West Virginia OT license.
  • Out of state applicants must obtain a West Virginia valid license prior to the start date.
  • Must be initially certified by the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT) as an occupational therapist.
  • Must possess appropriate documented academic and experiential qualifications and backgrounds necessary to meet curriculum design, content delivery, program evaluation and the mission of the Master of Science in Occupational Therapy (MSOT) Department.
  • Must have strong interpersonal and writing communication skills.
  • Maintain a high level of professional ethics as outlined by AOTA and the University.
  • Ensure knowledge of and compliance with ADA requirements within classes assigned.
  • Must have a valid Driver\'s License.
  • Passion for Occupational Therapy education.
  • Creative, and professional spirit with proven success in leadership.
  • Strong interpersonal abilities with excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively communicate with students, staff, faculty, and administrators.
  • Demonstrate abilities in teaching and curriculum development.
  • Self-motivated with refined organizational skills.
  • Willingness to learn and participate in the accreditation process.
  • Occasional overnight or multi-night travel is required.
  • Qualified application must be able to meet certain physical requirements, which include, but are not limited to:
  • Lift up to 10 pounds.
  • Occasional walking, standing, climbing, stooping, etc.
