OBJECTIVE:

The function of the position is to assist in fulfilling the responsibility of promoting the educational achievement of students at the Susan Clark Junior High School.
MAJOR DUTIES:

The duties, responsibilities and assignments may vary year to year but are illustrative of the variety and types of duties this job title may be required to perform.
A. Shared/Common Responsibilities:

  • Work with an administrative team under the leadership of the Head Principal as leader in the overall administration of the school.
  • Work with the administrative team in maintaining a fair and appropriate discipline program for students at SCJH as assigned by the Head Principal.
  • Work with an administrative team, faculty and guidance department and attendance center staff in maintaining a fair and appropriate attendance program, including monitoring, and following up on truancy with students at SCJH as assigned by Principal.
  • Work with the administrative team in maintaining a consistent policy of referral to and from special programs.
  • Work with the administrative team in maintaining a fair and workable detention program.
  • Work with administrative team in updating reports and records.
  • Work with administrative team in promoting a positive school climate for staff and students at Muscatine High School.
  • Work with administrative team in conducting safety inspections, safety drills and practices and day to day operation of the facility.
  • Work with administrative team in maintaining a favorable public and community relations program.
B. Specific Responsibilities:
  • Assist Head Principal by working on annual reports.
  • Assist Head Principal by working on updates of staff and student handbooks.
  • Assist Head Principal in monitoring and securing substitute teachers for the building.
  • Coordinate with District Directors in developing and implementing district programs.
  • Develop and monitor special programs to evaluate and maintain positive school climate.
  • Coordinate annual updating of fixed asset inventory.
  • Coordinate annual consumable supply inventory.
  • Coordinate in-house maintenance with staff.
  • Assist in the supervision of staff - conduct evaluations and work with staff development as assigned by building principal.
  • Supervise and evaluate assigned certified and non-certified staff.
  • Facilitate the appropriate functioning of the Special Education Department:
    • Supervise and evaluate the special education program including the teachers, aides and students. Build communication with parents, guidance personnel and others involved in the general well being of the students. Consult and refer with outside agencies as necessary in discipline cases.
    • Responsible for the maintenance of all IEP\'s, must participate in various IEP meetings, maintain, develop and implement appropriate special education services with staff.
12. Facilitate the appropriate functioning of the Activities Department:
    • Supervise and evaluate the all of the sponsors and all of the programs including the schedule "C" employees and volunteers.
    • Build communication with parents, community members, booster groups and potential donors involved in the general operation and support of the performing arts and fine arts programs at SCJH.
    • Consult with outside agencies and associations as necessary. Prepare realistic projections of receipts by sources as to one-time fundraisers, ongoing drive dances, performances, etc. Prepare realistic projections of expenditures by uses as to one-time equipment, officials, judges, mileage, lodging, materials, rentals, consultants etc.
C. Other Duties:
  • Develop and maintain drug/alcohol programming with counseling staff
  • Assist with annual building-wide Goal development.
  • Attend and support co-curricular events.
  • Assist in supervision of the school cafeteria when requested.
  • Assist in coordinating and planning for fire drills, severe weather drills and civil defense emergency drills.
  • Participate in efforts to improve programming for our SCJH, At-Risk students
  • Participate in efforts to increase amount of academic recognition, academic awards and scholarships available to students for post-secondary education opportunities.
  • Enhance personal professional skills:
    • Become more knowledgeable and be able to communicate current educational research
    • Maintain membership in state and national professional organizations.
9. Other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Master of Arts/Science Education Administration degree required, appropriate State of Iowa certification, other qualifications as specified by the School Board.

The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet. The position requires the commitment of professional working hours that may require the employee to extend beyond a typical 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. workday. The employee will frequently work in different areas of the classroom including in/at desks, on or near the floor, standing, in movement while supervising indoor and outdoor activities, etc. The employee will usually work in indoor temperatures but will work outdoors when supervising students outside of the classroom.
