Overview
The Department of Geosciences and the Ecology Center at Utah State University (USU), Logan, invites applications for an academic-year (9-month), tenure-track Assistant Professor position in interdisciplinary Critical Zone Geosciences, anticipated to begin August 2024. We seek candidates who conduct innovative, interdisciplinary, and quantitative investigation of critical zone (CZ) processes using field, laboratory, experimental, and/or computational methods to address issues of societal importance. Disciplinary expertise may include but is not limited to understanding CZ processes involved in soil production from bedrock, ecological impacts of mineral dust, geomicrobiology, carbon cycling and sequestration, pathways of water, responses to climate change and human impacts, and at the intersections between these areas.
Responsibilities
The position involves academic research (50%), teaching (40%) graduate and undergraduate courses, advising/mentoring graduate and undergraduate students, and service (10%) to the academic community. The position includes a 25% appointment in USU\xe2\x80\x99s Ecology Center, which enhances opportunities for interdisciplinary collaboration with researchers across colleges at USU. Successful candidates will demonstrate outstanding potential for excellence in research and scholarly leadership through development of a dynamic, externally funded research program. Candidates are expected to contribute to our core undergraduate and graduate curriculum in geosciences. Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications: * By the start date, candidates must have a Ph.D. in the Geosciences or a closely related field.
