Samford University\'s Howard College of Arts and Sciences invites individuals interested in serving in a
Christian university environment to apply for a 9-month, tenure track faculty position in Biology at the
rank of Assistant Professor, beginning August 2024.
Qualified candidates may be ABD prior to hire (with Ph.D. in hand by start date) or hold a Ph.D. in Biology,
Aquatic Ecology, or Marine Biology (or closely related field) with an emphasis on organismal biology or
ecology, from an accredited college or university (or equivalent). Candidates with successful track record
of teaching, research productivity, service (to the community, and university or discipline), and the
potential for externally funded research are preferred.
For this position, we seek outstanding individuals who will be enthusiastic in teaching introductory
courses, marine or aquatic biology/ecology, and developing specialty courses in an area of expertise.
Experience in teaching introductory biology courses is highly desirable. The department values faculty-
mentored student research and desires to recruit faculty who are invested in, and demonstrate a history
of, mentoring students from diverse backgrounds. The aquatic scientist will advise Marine Biology majors
and be the departmental liaison to the Dauphin Island Sea Laboratory. Samford University is a member
of the Alabama Marine Laboratory Consortium at the Dauphin Island Sea Laboratory, where marine
biology majors take summer classes and conduct guided research. Ancillary responsibilities will include
curriculum development and instructional design, student advising, service on departmental committees,
and community outreach. The department is collaborative. Effective communication and the ability and
