Job Summary

The work expectation for program directors\xe2\x80\x99 is 37.5 hours per week for professional duties; however, actual hours worked on- and off-campus in any given week can vary according to grading, class preparation requirements, meeting schedules, professional development activities, and office hours. Non-teaching duties may be assigned in lieu of teaching duties and are considered a part of the 30 credit-hour load. Assignment of non-teaching duties may be made at the discretion of the Provost in conjunction with a Division chair, when applicable, if a faculty member is not assigned to teach a full load. This position is responsible for development and coordination of the National Registry Paramedic program. This position reports to the Chair, Allied Health.

Essential Job Functions

I. Curricular Responsibilities

a. Work with the division chair, faculty, and advisory committee for curriculum development, revision, evaluation, and external accreditation.

b. Monitor the implementation of curriculum throughout the program.

c. Plan and develop eLearning courses and programs.

d. Ensure that all program courses and hybrid courses within the discipline are sufficiently rigorous and meet college standards and credit hour equivalencies.

e. Coordinate credit-bearing career-related internships for students.

f. Identify needs for student practica and coordinate placement.

g. Facilitate completion of student and instructor clinical/practica site requirements.

h. Maintain responsibility for adhering to the standards of the accrediting body and state and federal governing bodies and adapting curriculum appropriately.

i. Coordinate textbook selection and order process with faculty and the college bookstore.

j. Review and make recommendations about library resources/materials.

k. Prepare and present materials for any program changes to go to Academic Council.

l. Cooperative involvement with the medical director.

II. Faculty Responsibilities

a. Serve as point of contact for program issues.

b. Collaborate with program faculty regarding needed resources.

c. Maintain records verifying current Maryland licensure and educational credentials of both permanent and adjunct faculty as stipulated in state regulations.

d. Hire adjunct faculty as needed.

e. Meet with full- and part-time faculty throughout the semester.

f. Mentor program faculty providing advice and guidance as needed.

g. Observe and evaluate faculty performance.

h. Promote growth and development of faculty.

III. Planning and Assessment

a. Support the strategic goals of the College.

b. Work with the division chair for planning, determining goals and outcomes, and submitting any data or documents pertinent for planning purposes.

c. Work with division chair, faculty, and advisory committee to develop program and course outcomes.

d. Assess program compliance with accreditation standards.

e. Complete and submit required internal and external reporting documents.

f. Coordinate outcomes assessment processes at the program level.

g. Assist with outcomes assessment processes at the discipline or course level.

h. Schedule regular advisory board meetings and use feedback for program improvement.

i. Communicate supply and equipment needs to division chair.

j. Project annual budget for program.

IV. Scheduling

a. Make recommendations regarding course scheduling to the division chair.

b. Work with faculty on staffing classes.

c. Collaborate with other College faculty regarding course scheduling and other issues.

V. Outreach

a. Coordinate marketing and program promotional/recruitment activities for the program.

b. Work with marketing staff to assure that program information on the website is up-to-date.

c. Participate in student recruitment.

d. Work with senior institutions for ease of transfer for students.

e. Work with college personnel and educational partners to develop articulation agreements with high schools and 4-year colleges.

VI. Other

a. Participate in regularly scheduled meetings with the division chair, program directors, and/or discipline directors.

b. Communicate and collaborate with advisors as needed.

c. Advise students as appropriate.

d. Manage external grants, special programs, and development projects as appropriate.

e. Manage specialized facilities (labs, technical equipment, instruments, etc.) as appropriate.

f. Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements to Perform Work

  • Master\xe2\x80\x99s degree in emergency medical personnel, paramedic science or related field.
  • Current unencumbered license as National Registered Paramedic.
  • Knowledge, skills and abilities required include knowledge of current clinical practice and evidence-based practice, knowledge of basic principles of education, skill in communicating with students and other faculty members, skill in manipulating equipment, ability to plan and organize lab sessions for students in various courses, and experience using technology in education.
  • Prior college teaching experience preferred.
  • Must be available to work a variable schedule.
  • Must be positive, cooperative, and supportive.
Supplemental Information

SALARY INFORMATION

This position will be placed on the 10-month College faculty salary scale. Posted salary range is for Assistant Professor level; however, actual salary and faculty rank placement based on qualifications and experience. Position includes an excellent fringe benefit package.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

This work is normally medium work which requires exerting up to 30 pounds of force occasionally and or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects. Additionally, the following physical abilities are required:
  • Hear/talk/communicate \xe2\x80\x93 Must be able to exchange information and communicate
  • Visual acuity - Ability to perceive or detect surroundings
  • Mental acuity \xe2\x80\x93 Ability to focus, concentrate, understand, and convey subject matter
  • Repetitive motion (i.e., keyboarding)
  • Stand/walk - Must be able to stand, sometimes for sustained periods of time; Must be able to walk from one work area to another, sometimes for long distances/duration.
  • Bend/lift \xe2\x80\x93 as required in clinical setting
WORK ENVIRONMENT:

College campus, direct contact with students, staff, faculty and the public in classrooms, common areas, offices, campus environments and clinical sites (which include ambulances, firehouses, hospitals, long-term care facilities, and practicum visits.) Use of safe workplace practices with office equipment; computers for data entry and word processing; avoidance of trips and falls; observance of fire and building safety regulations; observance of College policies; and observance of traffic laws when/if driving a college vehicle.

To qualify for employment, selected candidates must:
  • successfully complete a criminal background check (for designated positions)
  • be able to work on campus as of the first day of employment
  • be a resident of DE, MD, PA, VA, WV or DC as of the first day of employment
  • be currently authorized to work in the US, as the College does not offer Visa sponsorship
