Position Summary

Big Bend Community College is establishing a pool of qualified individuals for Part-Time/Associate Faculty ESL/GED/HS+ Instructors. Applications will be accepted continuously and will be used to determine interest for open positions that occur during the academic year.

This position will teach English as a Second Language (ESL), or reading, math, writing skills, and other high school credits required for graduation to adults who have minimal basic skills or do not have a high school diploma. Students may work toward learning English, a GED or if 18 years or older, a high school diploma (HS+). Positions are available in Othello, Quincy, and Mattawa with approximately 5-12 hours per week, days and/or evenings. These teaching positions are onsite face-to-face only. This position reports to the Director of BEdA Programs and works closely with the Division Chair as well as other faculty and staff.

Essential Job Duties

Responsibilities will will include, but not limited to the following:

  • Teach classes in accordance with BBCC and Washington State standards.
  • Develop lesson plans and conduct lectures.
  • Meet with students to develop individualized goal sheets every quarter. Follow-up with students regarding goals throughout the quarter.
  • Maintain daily student attendance records and submit on a weekly basis. At the end of the quarter, submit a complete attendance report with signature for the quarter.
  • Administer pre- & post-CASAS (Comprehensive Adult Student Assessment System) test on all students enrolled in ABE or GED classes.
  • Assess student performance for accreditation report for submission to the Division Chair.
  • Attend all required trainings and meetings.
Minimum & Desirable Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor\'s degree in Education or related field from a regionally accredited institution.
  • Experience working with non-English speaking adults.
  • Previous experience working directly with individuals from diverse academic, age, socioeconomic, cultural, ability, and ethnic backgrounds.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Experience teaching English to non-native speakers.
  • Bilingual Spanish/English proficiency.

COMPENSATION:
Associate/Part-Time Faculty receive quarterly contracts. Payment is made on a per credit basis using the structure below:

Step 1 - Associate Faculty newly employed by BBCC with less than two (2) years of post-secondary teaching experience and less than twelve (12) credits taught as the instructor of record.

Lecture $862.94/credit
Lab $1,403.83/credit

Step 2 - Experienced Associate Faculty with more than two (2) years of post-secondary teaching experience and more than twelve (12) credits taught as the instructor of record.

Lecture $880.19/credit
Lab $1,431.91/credit

Associate/Part-Time Faculty earn sick leave on a pro-rata basis on in-class hours based upon their percent of full-time for all part-time faculty contracts with each academic quarter (fall through spring).

The college provides insurance and retirement benefits in accordance with the applicable statues and regulations governing Washington State employee benefits, funded through the state and in accordance with the rules and regulations governing the College. The Human Resources Office shall communicate benefit eligibility to all Associate/Part-Time faculty.

Retirement savings programs such as tax sheltered annuities, deferred compensation, and other savings programs are available for eligible employees who apply.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
