Job Responsibilities

Assists the classroom teacher with necessary record keeping, data collection, preparation of behavior/progress reports, and daily communications. Communicates effectively with students in developing language, conceptual and behavioral skills using a variety of methods based on each student\'s individual ability. Teaches one-on-one with the student or in a small group instructional setting under the direction of the classroom teacher; Assists teacher with monitoring daily schedules, supervision of students during lunch and on field trips, as well as, during trips to the health center. Assists the classroom teacher with the implementation of the IEP for each student served as assigned by the teacher; Assists the classroom teacher with the mechanics of classroom management on a daily basis; including the preparation of class materials; managing student behavior by use of the Code of Conduct and/or individual behavior programs; Assists with student self-care needs (lifting as needed); Provides supervision of students according to student competency rules and regulations of SCSDB; Promotes and encourages proper behavior and conduct for each student; Assists students with loading and unloading from buses and cars in the morning and afternoon.

Minimum and Additional Requirements

A high school diploma and experience in administration, education, or child care working with children in an educational setting and/or behavior management program. Experience working with children in an educational setting and/or behavior management program, preferably with deaf/hard of hearing children. This position may require communication modalities dependent upon employment placement.
