Overview
The St. Albans district office for Economic Services is seeking a friendly and customer service oriented individual to fill a Benefit Programs Specialist (BPS) opening. This position involves direct client interactions, both in person and on the phone. Job duties include and are not limited to determining benefits and referrals to appropriate resources. Critical thinking skills are a must, as you\'ll be constantly making prompt, accurate decisions. Training is provided and ongoing professional development is supported. AHS BACKGROUND CHECKS: Candidates must pass any level of background investigation applicable to the position. Environmental Factors
Duties are primarily performed in an office setting, but private means of transportation should be available for necessary travel to training and/or meetings. Workload is typically heavy with a constant need for prompt, accurate decisions. Incumbents must be organized and able to function independently while balancing competing priorities. Clientele can present with a variety of challenges resulting in a need to calmly and professionally manage situations in which applicants may be in a heightened emotional state, angry, frustrated, unable to communicate, and/or discouraged.
Minimum Qualifications
High School diploma or equivalent AND four (4) years or more of experience in direct client services in a human services, education or employment and training setting.
OR
Associate\'s degree or higher AND two (2) years or more of experience in direct client services in a human services, education or employment and training setting.
OR
Bachelor\'s degree in Business Administration, Human Services, or Education
OR
One (1) year or more of experience as a Benefits Programs Specialist Trainee.
