Oversees the administrative functions of the Bureau of Protective Services as delegated by BPS Command Staff. Directly manages BPS records, and the CALEA (Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies) process. Oversees the supervision of the Employment, Investigative and Training Units. Provides supervision for all BPS Special Units.
Directly manages BPS records including BPS form submissions, criminal case files and serves as the BPS CALEA Accreditation Manager.
Oversees the supervision of the Training and Employment/Investigations units. Approves leave requests and time for Unit Sergeants. Performs all other supervisory responsibilities required by DPS/BPS policy.
Provides leadership, direction and oversight to all BPS Special units, including: K-9, Bike Patrol, CIT (Critical Incident Team), UAV (Unmanned Aerial Vehicle), Investigation and Intel. Responsible for determining manpower capacity, selection processes, deployment protocols, record keeping, training and equipment procurement and maintenance.
Supervises the BPS Supply Officer. Serves as a representative of the Bureau of Protective Services at official meetings, work groups, public functions, and special task force as deemed necessary by the BPS Command Staff.
Individual must have the ability to exercise professional discretion and work professionally with non-law enforcement personnel within working environment.Minimum Requirements:
High school diploma or equivalent and/or five years law enforcement experience, Class I Law Enforcement Certification and must have been employed in an FTE position as a Bureau of Protective Services Sergeant.
Additional Requirements:
Excellent command of BPS/DPS policies and procedures and knowledge of S. C. Code of Laws. Must also be knowledgeable of the overall operations of the Bureau of Protective Services.
Must be able to apply abilities and skills with minimum supervision.
Must possess effective written and verbal communication skills; must be physically able to lift, bend and stand for prolonged periods of time; must be able to restrain individuals who may pose a threat to the governor and other public officials, state employees and the general public.
