Job Description

The Broadband Technician III position performs extremely complex installations, disconnects and service changes for residential and business customers, including FTTH (Fiber to the Home) and support PON/Metro E. These services include, but are not limited to, video service, HSD Services, and home/business phone service. This role performs advanced troubleshooting from the tap to the customer\xe2\x80\x99s electronic devices (TV, DVD, Modem etc.). This position will be responsible for installing, splicing, repairing and maintaining aerial, buried, and/or underground fiber optic and copper cable. This position will be knowledgeable of commonly used concepts, practices, and procedures within the field of telecommunications.

This position may have a scheduled shift of Tuesday-Saturday 8:00am-5:00pm PT

This position can be hired at either a Broadband Technician I (requisition ID #2023-22583), Broadband Technician II (requisition ID #2023-22584), or a Broadband Technician III (requisition ID #2023-22585) level, depending on the skills and qualifications of the candidate. The pay range listed for this position represents the low and high end of the base compensation range. The actual offer amount will carefully consider multiple factors, such as relevant skills, qualifications, work experience, location and/or competencies that align with the specified role. • Perform complex installation of all necessary cable wiring (interior and exterior) and hardware from the tap to the customer\xe2\x80\x99s equipment for reception of cable and other company services that are offered for single, multi-family, and/or commercial dwellings.

• This may include subject matter expertise related to the RF distribution of signals. All aspects of the network from the optical node to the distribution tap may be included as subject matter criteria.
• This may include system architecture \xe2\x80\x93 design principles and HFC architecture; distribution components \xe2\x80\x93 actives, passives and coaxial cable; signal types \xe2\x80\x93 analog, modulation schemes, frequency spectrum and impairments; maintenance and troubleshooting \xe2\x80\x93 sweeping, FCC rules, retum path, test equipment, status monitoring and troubleshooting techniques.
• Perform connects (new connects and reconnects), disconnects (requested and non-pays), upgrades, downgrades, and relocates; install additional outlets, fiber connections, hardline cutovers, and install or remove equipment (i.e. converters).
• Perform all work as necessary to conform to quality control guidelines (includes compliance with requirements outlined in applicable regulations such as: OSHA, FCC NEC and NESC).
• Test equipment to identify and repair signal strength issues and ensure optimum reception. Use Locators, TDR\xe2\x80\x99s, FDR\xe2\x80\x99s and read system maps required.
• Monitor and record system, drop, and in-house leakage; properly record all required information on work orders, surveys, referrals, etc.
• Promote cable, internet, and other company services; educate customer on proper use of the service, including how to add additional services, channel lineups, proper equipment usage, and other services that are available.
• Collaborates and communicates with other departments to ensure customer satisfaction.
• Clean, maintain, stock, and secure assigned vehicle and equipment.
• Perform other duties as requested by management.

Required Qualifications

• 3+ years\xe2\x80\x99 cable installation & repair or professionally related experience -OR- current military service, or prior military service with honorable discharge.
• Must follow the TDS attendance guidelines in order to meet TDS\xe2\x80\x99s business needs including but not limited to our obligations to our customers and to our customers\xe2\x80\x99 needs.
• Must have and maintain a valid driver\'s license.

• Upon hire, must successfully complete customer-specific requirements, which may include a background check administered by the customer.
• Requires being available for on-call/standby responsibilities and may require occasional travel.
• Certifies proficiency in the subject matter expertise related to the RF distribution of signals. All aspects of the network from the optical node to the distribution tap are included in this certification curriculum.
• Must be reliable and responsible, with a strong work ethic dedicated to a team.
• Practical knowledge/experience with computer applications.
• Familiarity with company products and services.
• Proven organizational skills and ability to multi-task.
• Demonstrated customer service and sales skills, as well as effective communications skills (verbal and written) for interaction
• Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic work environment.

• Successful completion of the SCTE Broadband Premise Expert course
• Ability to pass Department of Transportation physical and driver testing.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

While performing the duties of this job, the associate is regularly required to sit, stand, write and operate a computer keyboard, standard office equipment and telephone. The associate regularly communicates with customers. The associate is frequently required to move about and reach for items. Frequently required to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. May be required to balance or climb. Frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.This position may require working outdoors, in mechanical/equipment rooms, and possible extreme weather conditions. While performing the duties of this job, the associate is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts and heavy equipment. The physical demands described here are representative of those that mustbe met by an associate to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
