This is technical inspection work relating to building, plumbing, sign, mechanical, gas or electrical installations, or in securing compliance with the building code covering building construction, alterations, and repairs or the enforcement of the sign ordinance. Work is performed in both field and office and requires independent judgment. Assignments are reviewed by a superior through written and oral reports as well as by re-inspections.
Job Responsibilities
RESPONSIBILITIES/TASKS:
Inspects all work for compliance with appropriate code(s), and construction drawings.
Issues verbal orders for work found in violation of code(s)
When necessary, issues a "Stop Work" order and advises supervisor immediately.
Daily records all inspections in personal inspection log-book
Assists in prosecution of code(s) violators not correcting their work as directed.
Assists applicants in preparing permit applications and reviews applications for completeness.
Reviews plans, drawings and blueprints
Verifies and approves wind-load calculations submitted by developers or contractors.
Performs other planning and administrative tasks when required.
Must possess at least one (1) standard state licenses or have the ability to obtain, or possess, at least one (1) provisional state license which must be 1 & 2 Family Dwelling Inspector; or have the ability to obtain state standard licenses prior to the expiration date of the provisional state licenses. In addition, must have a one- & two-family license and the ability to cross train for the remaining licenses building, electrical, plumbing and mechanical in the time allotted by the Building Official.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge
Knowledge of and ability to read, interpret, and enforce appropriate code(s) with good judgment, firmness and impartiality.
Knowledge of and proficiency with inspection procedures
Ability to tactfully lead the public into voluntary compliance with the code(s)
Ability to adequately present an oral or written report.
Some knowledge of the legal procedures related to the enforcement of the code(s) is required.
Ability to detect hazardous conditions, particularly those immediately endangering life, health, and safety.
Possession of a valid Florida Operator License Class "E"
Pass required medical exam.
Education
EDUCATION (OR EQUIVALENT EXPERIENCE):
Graduation from high school or university and possess verification as a Building Inspector and 1 and 2 Family Dwelling Inspector Certification from ICC and be licensed by the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation as set forth in Chapter 468, F.S.
Five (5) years of experience in work involving building inspection, construction inspection or design or an equivalent combination of training and experience may be submitted.
Inspection experience preferred.
