Business Partnerships Lead

*This is a hybrid position that is based in our Schaumburg or downtown Chicago Office until Q4, 2023 when the single office will be in the Chicago/O\xe2\x80\x99Hare Area.

JOB SUMMARY:

We are seeking a creative, motivated, and results-driven individual with a strong background in cultivating relationships and experience in generating sales, as well as the willingness to provide sales support to the team. This is a newly created position at the Society of Actuaries (SOA).

Under the supervision of the Director, Business Partnerships and Development, this role is responsible for building relationships with a group of corporations to identify needs that lead to recommending and selling products and services that improve actuarial teams\xe2\x80\x99 performance. Items include but are not limited to, corporate professional development packages and sponsorship opportunities and exhibits. This role is also responsible for building relationships with key actuaries and companies to assist with opportunities for companies to sponsor SOA research projects and purchase SOA experience studies. Relationship-building and sales are accomplished through proactive emails, virtual meetings, and face-to-face communication with both existing and prospective organizations. The Business Partnerships Lead will also promote the SOA by raising awareness of the profession at various events to diverse audiences while supporting the team administratively.

Essential Functions

  • Determine decision-makers, conduct outreach, and develop target-specific strategies and tactics to reach revenue goals of products, programs and services.
  • Create efficiencies in employer engagement using every opportunity to develop relationships and identify the needs of each employer that could lead to new programs and services designed for that audience.
  • Identify new audiences outside of the actuarial profession that may be leads for products, programs and services.
  • Lead presentation efforts \xe2\x80\x93 securing an appointment, running the meeting, and sharing specific pitch details with stakeholders, bringing in SMEs as necessary. Coordinate appointment generation and schedules with SMEs.
  • Coordinating with SOA staff to drive success, including working closely with those inside and outside our department.
  • Champion SOA\xe2\x80\x99s efforts at awareness events such as STEM fairs and conferences focused on attracting students and stakeholders to the profession.
  • Maintain appropriate documentation of efforts in the sales database (Salesforce)
  • Maintain the subscription products and reporting by working with Customer Service, IT and Professional Development.
  • Process department invoices, sponsorship/exhibit contracts and invoicing
  • Provide sales support to the team, approximately 25% of the time while identifying efficiencies that can be made to the processes to reduce the time needed for the tasks.
Additional Activities:
  • Identify trends that could impact business and identify solutions.
  • Maintain a working knowledge of the industries, actuaries, and employers the SOA serves.
  • Create sales reports and projections.
  • Input files and detailed notes in Salesforce/Personify (SOA\xe2\x80\x99s AMS)
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED (an equivalent amount of training, education and experience will be considered)
  • Bachelor\xe2\x80\x99s degree preferred.
  • Minimum of three to five years\xe2\x80\x99 experience in relationship building and one year of sales
  • Demonstrated understanding of and experience with using sales tracking technology, (knowledge of Salesforce a plus).
  • Strong organizational and project management experience that demonstrates a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work well with constituents/customers and demonstrate a high level of diplomacy and sensitivity.
  • Proficiency in Word, Excel and PowerPoint

  • Outstanding written and verbal communications skills to effectively establish and maintain relationships with customers, staff and volunteers.

  • Self-motivated, goal and results-driven, with experience meeting or exceeding goals

  • Excellent project management skills, demonstrating the ability to coordinate and/or lead multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Ability to learn quickly, demonstrate critical thinking and make situation-appropriate decisions using sound judgment.
WORK ENVIRONMENT (environmental and atmospheric conditions commonly associated with the performance of the functions of this job).
  • Typical office environment when coming into the office is needed, with much of the time working from home in a dedicated, quiet space.
  • Travel up to 15%, as needed.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES AND COORDINATION required to perform the functions of this job.
