As a part of that, we are expanding our US East Coast/Gulf Coast presence and seeking a Business Program Manager 2 for the Austin and Houston Engineering organizations to drive impact at scale, advocate a One Microsoft mindset, and serve as a champion for our employees. This is a unique career opportunity for a business manager that combines technical capability, business insights, internal/external marketing, and leadership in employee experience. This position will be based in Austin, Texas, and you will manage a vendor in Houston to help execute on programming activities across both engineering sites.We are looking for a Business Program Manager 2 that will shape Microsoft\xe2\x80\x99s engineering engagement strategy and the experience of our employees. The Engineering Site\xe2\x80\x99s Business Program Manager 2 will develop and implement strategic plans and manage budget for:

  • Internal employee experience across all software engineering and research teams and roles: including site morale, employee resource groups, employee education programs, local training for software engineering disciplines, growth series, executive speakers series, Giving campaign, and minor changes to physical engineering spaces
  • External community engagement to engage all software engineering/research teams in the local community: including engagement with local/regional non-profits, hackathons, Meetups, potentially conferences, local university engagement and partnerships, open houses, oversight and participation in campus social media presence, STEM pipelines, and high school programs
  • Connecting with local software engineering talent through events and partnerships to grow the front-of-funnel: lead events to connect with perspective candidates and raise awareness of local software engineering and program management roles
This position reports to the campus engineering senior leader for Microsoft Austin and partners closely with local site leaders, local engineering managers, other East Coast/Gulf Coast site leaders and engineering site business managers, other stakeholders in 8 other engineering sites in the East and Central time zones, human resources, recruiting, and more. This person will act as an advisor for local leadership and help deliver on a plan for engaging the region\xe2\x80\x99s ecosystems and shaping an innovation culture.We are seeking a resourceful, self-driven individual with passion for partnering, detailed execution, and influencing others to drive impact. Our ideal candidate cares about creating a vibrant and inclusive work environment for all.About our Austin engineering site:While Microsoft has had a sales office in Austin for many years, it only relatively recently started hiring engineers in the Austin area. Most of its engineers at the site started working there during the pandemic or afterwards. It now employs many hundreds of engineers and related roles from our location in North Austin near the Domain. Example job descriptions for team members include:
  • Hardware engineers working to build and validate first-party ARM processors and other hardware.
  • Supply chain engineers working to make sure each Microsoft Azure data center is equipped with the computers and components needed to deliver our services.
  • Software engineers building database engines.
  • Software engineers building Azure services such as Azure Functions.
About our Houston engineering site:Microsoft\xe2\x80\x99s Houston engineering site is located in the ion district, Houston\xe2\x80\x99s innovation hub. This location allows our team to be collocated with more than 200 startups, universities, and corporate innovators. Over the past four years since opening this office, Microsoft has established itself as a leader in the city, promoting innovation, technology, sustainability, and DEI. Roles at this office cover many areas including:
  • Supply chain engineers and project managers working to make sure each Microsoft Azure data center is equipped with the computers and components needed to deliver our services
  • Energy Industry experts working to bring the latest technology to enable the energy transition
  • Software engineers building Azure services
  • Software engineer and projects managers working on our flagship products such as Xbox, Teams, Surface, etc.

  • Establish and maintain rhythm of the business (RoB) that drives execution of core business priorities and encourages best practice sharing among development centers .
  • Support and participate in strategic initiatives or cross-group projects contributing to the overall strategy. Create and implement accurate plans. Develop success metrics and communication approach for these initiatives and projects.
  • Partner with corporate communications and local teams to deliver on an internal communication (meetings, presentations, milestones, etc.) and external communication (university engagement, customer, partner, PR, etc.) strategy that reinforces Microsoft\xe2\x80\x99s values, brand, and presence in the region.
  • Partner with leaders, HR, Microsoft Garage, and Diversity & Inclusion champs to shape and influence a positive, inclusive, and innovative culture at our development centers.
  • Maintain relationships with peers outside the team to ensure cross-group collaboration.
  • Serve as strategic advisor to the site leadership counsel to the and site leaders in the region.
  • Manage a vendor delivering related programming at our partner engineering site in Houston, TX.
  • Embody our
andQualifications:Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor\'s Degree in Business, Operations, Finance or related field AND 4+ years work experience in program management, process management, process improvement, engineering lead, event planning
  • OR equivalent experience.
  • 2+ years of experience managing other employees or vendors (or relevant equivalent experience)
  • Experience managing budget equal to or greater than $100,000 including monthly and quarterly planning and adjustments throughout the fiscal year to meet budget spend targets.
Additional or preferred qualifications
  • Experience working with distributed teams.
  • Experience dealing with ambiguity, creating vision, and solutions.
  • Ability to travel 5%-10%.
Business Program Management IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $94,600 - $183,800 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $122,000 - $200,500 per year.Certain roles may be eligible for benefits and other compensation.
