Camp Laurelwood is Connecticut's only Jewish overnight camp, offering both sleepaway and day camp experiences rooted in Jewish values, adventure, and personal growth. Our waterfront is a central part of the camp experience, providing a safe and fun environment for campers to build confidence in the water.
Position Overview:
Camp Laurelwood is seeking a dedicated
Lifeguard & Swim Instructor
to join our waterfront team for the summer. This position is responsible for ensuring the safety of campers during swim periods, leading swim lessons, and assisting with general waterfront activities. The ideal candidate is a strong swimmer, has experience teaching swim lessons, and thrives in a camp setting.
Responsibilities:
Lifeguarding:
Maintain constant supervision of campers during free swim, instructional swim, and all waterfront activities.
Swim Instruction:
Teach daily swim lessons to campers of varying ages and skill levels, using a structured curriculum.
Safety & Emergency Response:
Enforce all waterfront safety rules and respond swiftly and appropriately to any emergencies.
Equipment & Area Maintenance:
Assist in maintaining a clean and organized waterfront area, including daily safety checks of the swim docks, equipment, and surrounding areas.
Team Collaboration:
Work closely with the Waterfront Director, fellow lifeguards, and camp staff to ensure a safe and fun swim program.
Camper Engagement:
Create a positive, encouraging environment that helps campers feel comfortable and confident in the water.
Qualifications:
Current
Lifeguard Certification
(American Red Cross or equivalent) required.
Current
CPR/AED and First Aid Certification
required.
WSI (Water Safety Instructor) certification
preferred.
Prior experience lifeguarding and teaching swim lessons, especially in a camp or youth setting.
Strong communication and leadership skills.
Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
A passion for working with children and creating a safe, inclusive, and fun camp experience.
