Required Skills
Collects history data; documents and reports abnormal physical findings to appropriate person.
Performs cardiology procedures according to established technique.
Maintains strict confidentiality regarding patient information and reports.
Runs EKG\xe2\x80\x99s; applies and removes holter recorders; scanning of holters for arrhythmia analysis; takes and records teletrace and arrhythmia monitor strips; assists physician in running stress tests.
Completes annual educational requirements and unit-specific competencies; complies with hospital policies and procedures.
Participates in evaluation of environmental safety and reports problems.
Meets hospital standards for fire, safety, and infection control; attends educational meetings.
Participates in self-evaluation; seeks to find ways to improve limitations.
Prepares for and explains procedures to patients.
Instructs patients and families in the use of equipment.
Offers reassurance to patients and family members.
Maintains safe and clean environment for patients.
Orders and stocks supplies in unit.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Experience
Qualifications To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
Must successfully complete departmental training in performing EKG\xe2\x80\x99s, stress tests, holter monitor hook-ups, teletrace clinic and arrhythmia monitors. Must be able to alphabetize; minimal typing skills are beneficial. Must be able to communicate effectively over the telephone. Must be able to assess and prioritize job duties. Must be reliable.
Education and/or Other Requirements High school education or equivalent. Previous work in a medical setting is desirable. Environmental Factors Job duties involve the potential for frequent exposure to blood and body fluids. Physical Demands The physical demands described are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
Must be able to push and maneuver EKG carts weighing up to 80 pounds to all parts of hospital. Must be able to maneuver in tight spaces and reach patients on raised carts to perform EKG\xe2\x80\x99s. Must be able to see well enough to evaluate tracing quality, to prepare patient charts and to enter information in charts, and to see various computer screens. Must have physical dexterity sufficient to operate small equipment, to apply and remove patient electrodes, handle and active small pieces of equipment, and to reach electrical outlets.
Traveling to other facilities with portable EKG machine; pushing or pulling patient carts; moving patients on occasion; carrying light loads of 15 to 25 pounds; moving light furniture (bedside tables, chairs, carts) to reach patients.
