DescriptionThe Emergency Shelter area of Hennepin County\'s Health and Human Services needs you! We are seeking multiple Case Management Assistants to join the Family Shelter team to support day-to-day operations at a number of overflow and Safe Space locations.

For more information visit the page.Location and hours:These positions will be performed on-site at various community sites within Hennepin County. Staff are needed to work anywhere from a few shifts a week up to 40 hours per week. Work hours are 4 p.m. - 12:30 a.m. or 12 a.m. - 8:30 a.m., as well as a mix of evening, weekend, and holiday hours.About these position types:
These are full-time, limited duration (temporary) benefit earning positions that may last up to two years.
These positions are internally classified as a Case Management Assistant.
Click to view the job classification specification.In these positions, you will:

  • Support families currently experiencing homelessness who may be facing barriers due to mental health, substance abuse, socio-economic hardships, or language and are currently accessing services within the county homeless response system.
  • Interact with clients face-to-face; welcoming them at entrance, providing orientation to the space, communicating expectations, answering questions, conducting room checks, monitoring site activity, and delivering meals to families.
  • Maintain a clean and orderly staff workspace and supply inventory.
  • Work with peers, security, other site staff, departmental colleagues, and other stakeholders to provide a safe and secure environment.
  • Document all shift activities within the Homeless Management Information System (HMIS).
  • Grow your direct service skills through ongoing training and development opportunities.
Need to have:
  • One of the following:
  • Two years or more of responsible, paid social service experience providing direct client service.
  • A two-year human services certificate.
  • Two years or more of college coursework in the behavioral sciences.
Nice to have:
  • Experience:
  • Working directly with individuals experiencing homelessness.
  • Using HMIS to perform data entry where accuracy is essential.
  • Knowledge of community resources and social services available to clients.
  • Ability to:
  • Work effectively and communicate with individuals from a variety of cultural and lifestyle backgrounds in a respectful and non-judgmental manner.
  • Work both independently and collaboratively as an effective team member.
  • Make sound, independent judgment.
Candidates with fluency in another language in addition to English are encouraged to apply.
