Position Summary
This position works with unit staff, librarians, library staff, library and bibliographic system vendors, the Orbis Cascade Alliance, and library users to facilitate library materials organization, discovery, and retrieval. Assists in establishing and maintaining ongoing authority control practices and procedures in accordance with local, regional, and national standards, including creation and submission of new authority records to the Library of Congress. This position will also be responsible for collecting pertinent data and providing reports for library units. Tasks are done largely independently with help as needed. Monitors, resolves, and answers user reported access and discovery problems online. Collaborates closely with other library units.


Minimum Qualifications from Classification

  • Bachelors degree plus two years of current (within 5 years) experience in a Library; OR ,
  • 4 years of current library experience;
  • AND , advanced proficiency in multiple library specific computer applications, e.g., integrated library systems, database applications, institutional repository; content management systems.
  • Some positions may also require in-depth knowledge of specialty area(s), e.g., original cataloging, complex copy cataloging, serials management, ILL management, government documents, image resources, music.



Additional Minimum Qualifications for this Position
  • Ability to work accurately with attention to detail
  • Understanding of cataloging standards
  • Ability to interpret, create, modify, and verify records within established rules and procedures
  • Experience working with digital collections, including familiarity with related standards, tools and technologies
  • Understanding of research and publishing practices
  • Ability to work in a team and collaborative environment
  • Proficiency in library specific computer applications (OCLC, integrated library systems, and other) and MS Office and Google productivity software



Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience in original cataloging.
  • Ability to catalog in one or more non-English languages.

Work Days/Hours



Total Compensation Range & Benefits Statement
The starting hourly salary rate for this position will be between $18.12 and $20.62. The starting salary may be negotiable above this range, however it will be dependent upon the knowledge, experience, skills and abilities of the chosen candidate, the budget of the hiring department, and approval from HR. PSU\xe2\x80\x99s excellent benefits package includes 95% premium paid healthcare; a generous retirement and vacation package; and reduced tuition rates for employee, spouse or dependent at any of the Oregon Public Universities.
