Primary Function:

  • Manage strategic procurement activities related to Metal Components Including commodity strategy, strategic sourcing, supplier performance management, risk and capacity management, contract and cost management, and operational management.
  • Develop and execute a global strategy for assigned commodity(s) and associated supply chain programs by leveraging innovative sourcing strategies.
  • Maintain solid relationships with suppliers, partner with supply chain stakeholders, and adhering to quality control standards while stabilizing cost performance goals.
  • Head cross-functional category team, mentor other teammates within the purchasing team, and may have supervisory responsibilities.
  • Identify and drive key procurement initiatives.
Roles and Responsibilities:

Category Strategy Development and Management
  • Drive development of global commodity strategy for assigned commodity groups to meet company and internal stakeholder needs
  • Leverage strategic sourcing processes to develop and execute commodity strategies and projects
  • Develop local and regional supply chains as needed to support plant operations with connection to global strategies
  • Develop roadmap to consolidate spend to preferred suppliers
  • Prioritize commodity team projects and work to secure cross-functional support needed to complete projects
  • Ensure commodity team goals and priorities are achieved, including on time project completion
  • Engage with internal stakeholders to develop and influence commodity strategy that aligns with long term business targets
  • Contribute to innovation by partnering with best in class suppliers and new product introduction team to future development needs
  • Develop a menu of suppliers to meet future design needs, influencing and helping sourcing outcomes, and ensuring manufacturing transfer requirements are met
  • Drive utilization of market intelligence data to anticipate changes, safeguard supply, leverage purchasing power, and optimize performance
  • Develop and run quarterly commodity or sub-commodity strategy reviews
Supplier Performance Management
  • Establish and ensure suppliers meet key performance goals, including owning supplier score carding for assigned commodity(s)
  • Head up strategic supplier business reviews
  • Leverage technology to create and present analytics that increase the company\'s ability to effectively monitor and measure supply chain performance
  • Drive continuous improvement with suppliers, including cross-functional partnerships when needed
Risk and Capacity Management
  • Drive Intuitive\'s Supply Chain Risk Management (SCRM) program for assigned commodity(s)
  • Develop mitigation plans and programs for identified commodity, supplier, and part risks including sole sourced and critical supply base
  • Drive long-term capacity assessment and forecast study to secure needed capacity from assigned commodity(s) and supply base
  • May serve as project manager for key supplier capacity or risk mitigation initiatives
  • Leverage problem solving skills and develops counter-measures to implement long-term solutions to identified problems
Contract and Cost Management
  • Establish contractual agreements for new partners and revise existing agreements to align with changes to Intuitive\' s contract strategy
  • Perform ongoing contract reviews across assigned commodity(s) to ensure existing contracts align with business needs
  • Negotiate and manage long-term pricing agreements, quality agreements, master supplier agreements, and other contracts as required, leveraging company-wide goals and driving key negotiation points to a successful resolution
  • Create and manager delivery of annual cost reduction plan to achieve corporate intentions
  • Partner with suppliers and cross-functional team to develop multi-year pipeline of cost savings ideas to ensure sustainable achievement of cost goals for assigned commodity(s)
Operational Management
  • Help plant purchasing by leading negotiations with suppliers to adopt and implement lean sourcing methods (e.g. Kanban) to enable 100% material availability and optimization of on-hand inventory levels
  • Use continuous improvement techniques to drive toward attainment of key purchasing metrics (supplier on-time delivery, quality, risk management, inventory velocity, and cost reduction)
  • Drive change management/change order implementation for complex projects
  • Create standard processes, train, and/or support purchasing team on standard work, in order to maintain consistency in quality and quantity of output
  • Support internal and external compliance audits
  • Improve system reports, create new reports/tools/automation improvements
  • Mentor colleagues within the supply chain organization and may have supervisory responsibility. Identifies process and training improvement opportunities and drives closure of identified gaps
Qualifications

Skill/Job Requirements:
  • Minimum BS degree or equivalent
  • 10+ years of purchasing experience in a regulated industry manufacturing environment (medical device preferred). Master\'s degree preferred
  • Significant computer experience including MS Office products and ERP systems, preferably SAP, Agile and Excel skills
  • Proven track record of effective project management in a fast-paced manufacturing company (medical device preferred)
  • Thorough knowledge of and experience working with Kanban systems and other lean methods
  • Working knowledge of buying, material planning, master scheduling, and forecasting
  • Experience managing Precision Machining, Castings, Raw Material (Metals) and Mechanical Components spend/suppliers and/or technical expertise in this commodity preferred
Nice to haves:
  • Certifications: CPSM, CPIM, and/or PMP preferred
  • Proven track record of leveraging strategic sourcing process across a global supply base, developing commodity strategies, and cross-functional leadership to implement commodity strategies
  • Experience with people management and/or extensive cross-functional team leadership
  • Proven track record of promoting positive team culture and employee development
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and projects successfully and adapt to changing priorities
  • Exceptional negotiation skills and experience with proven track record of savings
Travel:
  • ~25% travel to both domestic and international suppliers

We provide market-competitive compensation packages, inclusive of base pay, incentives, benefits, and equity. It would not be typical for someone to be hired at the top end of range for the role, as actual pay will be determined based on several factors, including experience, skills, and qualifications. The target salary ranges are listed.
