The State University of New York (SUNY) Maritime College recognizes the offshore wind industry, which is a maritime industry, will be essential to the future economic and environmental health of the region. As the nation embraces renewable forms of energy, numerous offshore wind projects are currently underway. Maritime College is poised to leverage its expertise to help shape the industry\'s future, and ensure its continued growth and success. Toward this end, we have established the Maritime College Center of Excellence for Offshore Wind Education, Training, and Innovation. This Center of Excellence is focused on advancing this important and burgeoning industry in the following four areas:
1. Research and Scholarship: Supporting research, innovation, and scholarship that will advance the industry, including floating offshore wind energy and other emerging technologies
2. Academic Programs: Embedding offshore wind in the College\'s existing undergraduate and graduate programs to dramatically expand the workforce and produce leaders for the offshore wind industry
3. K-12 Outreach and Education: Creating pathways into maritime careers for NYC\'s underserved youth through strong K-12 outreach and education, with greatly expanded summer STEM programs, development of secondary school outreach programs and resources, and activities that demystify and expand awareness of careers on the water, including swimming and boating programs for identified cohorts
4. Work Force Development Programs: Establishing workforce development programs through specialized professional development/certification programs for those currently employed in the industry as well as working professionals seeking to enter this rapidly emerging sector of the maritime industry
The College therefore seeks an experienced, innovative Technical Director to lead the Center and realize its goals. The successful individual will report directly to the Provost and will work closely with members of the College\'s Center of Excellence for Offshore Wind and collaboratively with interdisciplinary faculty and staff from across the campus. The position will require a strong aptitude for self-management, self-learning, and attention to detail, as well as good communication skills (written and verbal) and proficiency in the English language.
