Job Summary and Qualifications

As a compassionate Child Life Specialist you will work to minimize the negative psychological impact of trauma that illnesses and hospitalization can have on children and their families. In addition to providing care to these patients you will offer support to the parents, with a focus on emotional encouragement and education. Our team works hard to support each other, and we are looking for someone who feels patient care is as meaningful as we do.

In this role:
  • You will promote a healing environment that addresses the emotional and developmental needs of patients and families through assessment, intervention, advocacy and education.
  • You will develop skills to assess, implement and evaluate the preparation and educational needs of patients and families.
  • You will proactively support efforts that ensure delivery of safe patient care and services and promote a safe environment based on individual patient needs.
  • You will use play therapeutically to promote healing, coping, mastery, self-expression, control and learning.
  • You will select activities to address individualized needs of patients and families including their developmental, physical, social and emotional needs.
  • You will plan and provide normalization activities during hospitalization within a non-threatening and supportive environment.
  • You will assist in the education of parents on day-to-day operations/goals, treatment plans and at home care procedures.
  • You will act in a composed and professional manner, especially under pressure.
What qualifications you will need:
  • Basic Cardiac Life Support must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date
  • Child Life Certification
  • Bachelors Degree
