• Position: Certified Tutor
• Location: Newark Public School, TBD
• Hours on Site: 9 - 1 pm (This includes an hour of paid prep each day)
• Time Frame: Paid training starts the week of June 19th; 24 tutoring sessions total; Monday - Friday (Exact start and end times TBD)
• Reports To: NJTC Site Coordinator
• Subordinate Staff: N/A

BASIC FUNCTION

The New Jersey Tutoring Corps Inc. provides high-dosage tutoring for K through Grade 8 students in math and literacy to close learning gaps. The New Jersey Tutoring Corps seeks to hire tutors to work with scholars in partnership with Boys & Girls Clubs and YMCA summer day camps from June to August. Tutors will work with small groups of scholars, typically in groups of 1-5, in grades K-5 in building skills in math and literacy.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

• Engage with scholars in grades K-5 to build on existing mathematics and/or literacy skills.
• Complete daily records on scholar progress and site needs using the tools provided.
• Use diagnostic data to drive instruction.
• Communicate regularly with your site coordinator, senior BGC & YMCA staff, and on-site camp staff to provide optimum learning- experiences for scholars.
• Participate in coaching from an instructional coach.
• Use an asset-based approach in working with scholars.
• Be responsive and work collaboratively with other tutors and site staff.
• Complete all training.

QUALIFICATIONS

Required Qualifications:

• Experience working with young children, preferably in a learning and teaching capacity.
• Standard certificate, certificate of eligibility (CE), or certificate of eligibility with advanced standing (CEAS).
• New Jersey Certification of Criminal History (fingerprint form)
• Experience with Google suite functions including Google sheets and forms.
• Professional skills include attention to detail, timely and proactive communication, and job preparedness.
• Reliable transportation to travel to sites.

• Genuine desire to work with young children in a teaching capacity, building on foundational skills and closing learning gaps using formative and summative data and strong teaching pedagogy.
