Job Description


We are seeking an energetic, dedicated person to fill a Charge Registered Nurse position at our dialysis clinic in Soldotna, Alaska. The Charge Nurse (CN) is a vital part of the clinical team, working closely with the Clinical Manager to direct and manage clinical activities through direct supervision.

The primary responsibilities of this position are:

  • Is responsible for all aspects of patient care, either directly or through delegation, including, but not limited to: new patient admissions; patient transfers and discharges; nursing assessments, (both initial and pre/post each treatment), monthly nurses notes that are reflective of the patient\xe2\x80\x99s Plan of Care; initiation, monitoring and terminating dialysis, per Policy and Physician Orders.
  • Completes daily rounds on all patients to ensure their needs are met; to solicit, identify and correct patient grievances and to ensure that staff is delivering physician prescriptions to all patients. Uses rounding opportunities to mentor nurses and dialysis technicians in clinical management of the dialysis patient.
  • Either directly or indirectly develops a plan of care to ensure each patient achieves the desired clinical outcomes.
  • Either directly or indirectly ensures each new patient is assessed by the multi-disciplinary team consistent with facility policy.
  • Reviews the data collected by the dialysis technicians and the ensures the registered nurse assesses each patient pre and post dialysis and the patient is provided a treatment appropriate to meet their individualized Plan of Care.
  • Either directly or indirectly completes the medical record documentation and ensures it is complete and reflects changes in patients\xe2\x80\x99 condition and discrepancies between what is ordered and what is delivered.
  • Educates patients so they can be an active participant in their own care
  • Participates in and assists medical staff with patient rounds.
  • Communicates immediate patient needs to the medical staff in an organized fashion including information identified during the nursing assessment and important historical information.
  • Provides Clinical Leadership for direct patient care staff
  • Works closely with and routinely communicates concerns about both patients and staff with the Clinical Manager and/or Medical Director, (if appropriate).
  • Ensures that all staff maintain the integrity, security and privacy of the medical record always.
  • Ensures that staff acts consistent with the Fresenius Kidney Care HIPAA and Compliance policies ensuring patient privacy and confidentiality.
  • In conjunction with the Clinical Manager coordinate staff meetings no less than quarterly (and preferably, monthly).
  • Ensures that supplies are used appropriately and cost effectively. Will participate in analyses and, when necessary will initiate appropriate action plans to improve the financial performance of the clinic.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned by the Clinical Manager.

Qualifications/Requirements:
  • Current Alaska RN license
  • Current CPR certification
  • Prior Charge Nurse experience preferred
  • Minimum 1 year in clinical nursing; additional 6 months of experience providing nursing care to patients on maintenance dialysis.
  • ICU experience preferred but not required
  • Demonstrated leadership ability
  • Good communication skills \xe2\x80\x93 verbal and written
  • Ability to organize with multiple interruptions/distractions
  • Working knowledge of MS Office
Physical Job Requirements:
  • Frequent long periods of standing, bending, stooping, walking, sitting
  • The ability to lift up to 35-50 lbs.
