Job Description


Meriwether Godsey is looking for a Full-time Chef/Manager responsible for overseeing the kitchen by assisting the Executive Chef with the back-of-house operations at Sweet Briar College located in Amherst, VA.

What you will do:

Assist Executive Chef with all aspects of production and works collaboratively alongside production staff to incorporate key ingredients/products into recipe and menu offerings on a daily basis.

Participate in preparation, cooking, and portioning of large quantities of meals and other items; determine how food should be presented and create decorative food displays.

Ensure quality and timeliness of food production; using batch cooking methods to maintain quality and freshness of the product.

Assist Executive Chef with ordering food/supplies and receiving and checking products for freshness and quality.

Assist with monitoring and recording kitchen inventory and production data; drives sustainability programs to improve waste reduction.

Assist Executive Chef with day-to-day support, training, and staff guidance to ensure that food quality standards, food safety, and sanitation guidelines are met.

Ensure correct use of equipment, perform preventive maintenance, and schedule equipment maintenance.

Inspect supplies, equipment, or work areas to ensure conformance to established standards.

Keep food production areas, kitchen equipment, and storage areas clean, organized, and sanitized; participate in and assist with coordinating the cleaning of cooking areas and equipment.

Assist with and attend daily pre-production and service meetings; offer input regarding leftover utilization, efficiency, product quality, etc.

Fosters an inclusive environment for all staff and guests, while maintaining effective client and customer-centric relationships

Perform all duties in accordance with food safety and sanitation best practices.

What you need:

Culinary Degree and/or 3 years in a Kitchen Supervisory role required.

ServSafe\xc2\xae Food Protection Manager Certification is required.

Experience with high-volume food service operations, preferably in school environments.

Proficiency and growing knowledge of sustainable practices with a passion for reducing waste.

Participative management style and excellent leadership skills.

Strong communication and presentation skills.

Reliable Transportation.

Must provide proof of Covid-19 vaccination. Exemptions are available upon request.
