Job Description


Summary

Clallam County is seeking a Civil Deputy to be responsible for the overall operation of the Civil Section. Employee reports directly to the Chief Civil Deputy Sheriff. Work includes performing complex administrative, research, and special project work with limited or no supervision. Employee uses independent judgment of complex rules and technical, sensitive information in the performance of daily work regarding processing, planning and implementation of civil process, sex/kidnapper registration process, and firearms eligibility. Employee must have knowledge of laws, rules and procedures, case law and best practices in regard to all activities performed by the position. Work includes processing civil paper service and sales, attaching property, conducting sales, and serving writs as ordered by the Court. Employee is responsible for maintaining records of sex/kidnapping offenders registered in Clallam County, and the processing and approval of concealed pistol licenses and firearm transfers. Employee acts in behalf of the Sheriff in matters which relate to the civil function; accounts for funds; and provides budget information to the administration. Employee is responsible for training employees in the position of Administrative Specialist II in all aspects of civil process and for training commissioned personnel on proper process of service. Employee is also responsible for training of fellow employees to ensure continuity during periods of incumbent\'s absence. Work requires considerable public contact involving patience, tactful and courteous treatment of the public, and a rapid and accurate pace of work to process transactions in the shortest possible time. Employee must be able to courteously handle complaints of various types and respond to sometimes distressed or irate individuals. Employee must also have a working knowledge of the department\'s filing system.

Work is performed primarily in a high stress office environment with minimal work in the field. Shift work may be required.

Education/Training/Experience

  • High School graduate or GED
  • Minimum twenty-one (21) years of age at time of testing
  • Washington State Drivers\' License at time of employment
  • Two years full-time, paid, experience in advanced secretarial work, or two years\' experience in related law enforcement
  • To perform this job successfully, an individual should have a great deal of computer knowledge and ability
  • Successfully pass all testing and examinations which measure ability to perform essential job functions. These tests may include but are not limited to physical agility, written, oral, skill, polygraph, psychological, medical, and background examination
  • No Felony convictions or convictions for misdemeanors involving moral turpitude
