Job Duties

As a mid-levelCivil Engineer II, you will:

  • Assist with activities in engineering, design, construction, and maintenance of transit projects.
  • Conduct self-directed work in a team environment.
  • Demonstrate ability to work with minimal supervision, applies general engineering principles, and thinks analytically.
  • Act as a primary resource to other UTA departments and external agencies, coordinating with local and federal agencies to advance and implement projects.
  • Participate on both internal UTA and external multi-disciplinary teams as directed.
  • Represent UTA in project related public involvement initiatives and works to create positive solutions for the community.
  • Under supervision, provide support and assistance for cross-disciplinary engineering projects including assisting with planning, designing and specifications.
  • Use engineering software for modeling and drafting.
  • Manage documentation and engineering files.
  • Attend internal and external project meetings.
  • Perform field assignments as needed.
In addition to what is listed above, as an upper-level Civil Engineer III, you will:
  • Coordinate engineering activities of office staff, consultants, and contractors.
  • Provide technical expertise in the creation and review of both project design criteria and design activities for projects in Capital Development.
  • Serve as a key member of the capital project team.
  • Help lead engineering and design development processes.
  • May serve as a project manager and directly manage smaller projects and initiatives, including project designs or smaller construction projects.
  • This is an upper-level civil engineering position and may involve mentoring and assisting lower-level civil engineers.
Minimum Qualifications

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/CERTIFICATIONS

Civil Engineer II
  • 4-8 years in civil engineering or transportation planning.
  • Bachelors degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited institution or acceptable equivalent.
  • Professional Engineer certification required.
Civil Engineer III
  • 8+ years in civil engineering or transportation planning.
  • Bachelors degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited institution or acceptable equivalent.
  • Professional Engineer certification required.
KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES (Same for all Levels)
  • Basic civil engineering concepts/calculations, i.e., slopes, curves, drainage, etc.
  • AutoCAD, MicroStation, or other related CAD software.
  • Familiar with modern office methods, practices, procedures, and equipment, as well as filing systems and business letter writing.
  • Basic proficiency in spreadsheet and word processing programs preferred.
  • Competent in correct English usage, grammar, spelling, punctuation, and arithmetic.
  • Creative and strong problem-solving skills; detail oriented; technical writing skills.
  • Communicates tactfully and effectively, verbally and in writing, and maintains effective work relations with those encountered in the course of employment.
  • Be quality minded, self-motivated, and resourceful.
  • Work closely, productively, and effectively with a team to accomplish tasks.
  • Work in a fast paced, team environment, Work with close to moderate supervision.
  • Learn industry related concepts, software, and methods.
  • Serve as a cross-disciplinary engineering resource.

Pay Ranges:
  • Civil Engineer II $77,500.00 to $93,000.00 Depending on Experience
  • Civil Engineer III $87,500.00 to $105,000.00, Depending on Experience
