The is hiring a Claims Management Specialist. The position is responsible for assisting the Departmental Risk Manager with the implementation of enterprise-wide programs that protect physical, financial, intellectual, and human assets. This position performs the full-range of claims management duties; works under general supervision of the Departmental Risk Manager; applies a variety of rules, ordinances, statutes, and legal precedents; and exercises discretion and sound judgment in the adjustment and settlement of such claims.Examples of duties of a Claims Management Specialist, includes but is not limited to the following:

  • Independently adjusts routine to complex claims under the BWS self-insured programs for general liability and auto liabilities and oversees claims processed under other BWS insurance policies including contracted claims management work for worker\'s compensation claims.
  • Promptly responds to incidents to assess damages and/or liability such as visitations to water main break sites to inspect property damages or injury.
  • Communicates investigative findings, potential concerns, and any other risk management issues to the proper authority (BWS management, contractors, third party administrators, insurance brokers, insurance agents, insurance companies and BWS attorneys) when appropriate.
  • Maintains the risk management database. Establishes and maintains claim files (electronic/scanning and hard copies) into the risk management database.

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT:
Two (2) years of progressively responsible professional work experience which involved investigating, analyzing, adjusting and settling claims of liability, property damage, worker\'s compensation and/or automobile cases for insurance companies and/or self-insured programs of government and/or major private organizations.Applicable Skills:
  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of insurance claims adjusting.
  • Knowledge of risk management principles, concepts and practices.
  • Knowledge of claims investigations and settlement techniques.
  • Knowledge of interviewing and investigating methods and techniques.
  • Ability to investigate, evaluate, adjust and settle liability, property, and automobile claims.
  • Ability to analyze, interpret and apply State Statutes, court decisions, legal opinions, and insurance clauses and provisions.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgment in analyzing and evaluating a wide variety of claim data.
  • Ability to identify issues and develop recommendations for the disposition or resolution of issues.
LICENSE REQUIREMENT:
Possession of a valid driver\'s license (Type 3/automobile), prior to appointment. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE EVALUATION:
