Part time is also available, please contact Human Resources for more information.What is an Educational Interpreter?An Educational Interpreter is a qualified professional who meets the standards set by the State of Nebraska, in accordance with Rule 51. In general, an interpreter works alongside a teacher of the deaf, special education teacher, and/or the classroom teacher. A qualified Educational Interpreter is fluent in American Sign Language and spoken English, is fluent in one or more English based sign language systems, and has specialized training, certification, or skills specific to the educational interpreting process.Qualifications for Educational InterpretersSign Language Interpreter is defined as: An individual who has attained the following competency levels as measured by the following assessment:

  • Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment (EIPA) competency level 4.0 and written EIPA, or has been issued a \xe2\x80\x9cgrandfather\xe2\x80\x9d certificate by the Nebraska Department of Education (NDE), or interpreters who meet other certifications in accordance with Rule 51 (pg 68) requirements.
Hours for Educational InterpretersThe interpreter will work hours in accordance with building needs, up to 40 hours per week. On average, the interpreter will work 7.5 hours per day which includes prep time and meeting time before and after school. The interpreter will be given a 30 minutes duty-free unpaid lunch. There may be additional hours that are not directly supporting students. These hours may fall into the following categories: Prep Time, IEP or team meetings, extra curricular activities, or professional development opportunities. Any additional hours must be pre-approved by the administration.On scheduled teacher inservice days, the interpreter may work on prep work or professional development. It is important that the interpreter stays current on lessons and classroom content. When needed, the interpreter will use the scheduled inservice days to consult with teachers and review teachers\' plans and upcoming lessons, and work on professional development activities.If the student chooses to participate in extracurricular activities, that time will be added to the interpreter\'s hour allotment, not to exceed 40 hours, unless approved prior to the activity.Job Title : CLASSIFIED_Sign Language Interpreter 2024/25 FT or PTPrimary Location : District WideSalary Range : Per HourShift Type : Full-Time
