Job Title: Clinical Coordinator - Pediatrics Pulmonary & Sleep Medicine - SOM Peds Pulmonary

Job Summary: Supervise Pediatric Sleep Medicine techs and nurses as well as provide clinical and technical care to both inpatients and outpatients. The position provides direct patient care to assigned pulmonary and sleep medicine patients. Administers and monitors treatments in accordance with current treatment plan or as directed by the physician. To provide competency-based education to patients, staff, and providers. The position is responsible for supporting the coordination of care activities for patients. Interacts daily with patients, families, providers, durable medical equipment companies, and transport agencies. Performs work that reflects substantial variety and moderate complexity. This position will also complete sleep medicine scoring and other sleep capabilities. Additionally, this position holds technical knowledge associated with maintaining and repairing pulmonary and sleep medicine equipment used in the inpatient and outpatient settings.

Education & Experience

Three (3) years of work experience scoring and resulting sleep studies.

Certifications, Licenses Or Registration Required: Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) Certification Or Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), Registered Polysomnographic Technologist (RPSGT) - Board Of Registered Polysomnographic Technologists or Registered Sleep Technologist (RST) - American Board of Sleep Medicine.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Performs a variety of both daytime and nighttime polysomnographic and pulmonary exams and testing on pediatric patients to detect common pulmonary and/or sleep disorders, including but not limited to PFTs, sleep studies, sweat testing for Cystic Fibrosis patients, etc.
  • Scores and results sleep studies to completion for the physicians to review and interpret and gives scoring and decision-making feedback to the techs that ran the studies when needed.
  • Teach and train new and less experienced techs in the procedures, techniques, responsibilities and expectations of a tech at this facility. Also, assign studies and nightly duties to other techs on a nightly basis, oversee all studies being performed by all techs.
  • Monitors, records, and evaluates sleep techs and support staff.
  • Leads by exemplifying a high standard of professionalism and patient care. Sets daily staff schedule, on-call week-end schedule, and monitors adherence to and enforces compliance of department and hospital policies and procedures.
  • Builds and follows procedural protocols to ensure collection of appropriate data. Documents procedures and data recorded from exams in order to facilitate scoring and interpretation of polysomnographic results. This includes the Pulmonary Clinic procedure logbook and Cystic Fibrosis sweat test monitoring logbook.
  • Attends sleep study clinic (including outreach clinics off of main campus), perform tech consults, and complete other managerial duties as assigned when needed or when manager is out.
  • Obtains referrals and orders, contacts families to schedule appointments for pulmonary and sleep medicine testing.
  • Care coordination between pulmonary providers (as well as ancillary staff) and Select Specialty Sleep Center to ensure timely procedure scheduling and test results.
  • Collects, analyzes and integrates patient information in order to identify and meet patient-specific needs and to determine final testing parameters. Explains pre-testing, testing and post-testing procedures to the patient in order to educate the patient.
  • Prepares and calibrates equipment used for testing to determine proper functioning and makes adjustments if necessary.
  • Supervises inventory management. Adheres to the department policies for maintaining inventory, supplies, materials and organization of lab and technical areas. Assists in the ordering of pulmonary and sleep medicine supplies and materials, keeps track of supplies and supply needs to report to manager for ordering, as well as, performs equipment care and maintenance and complies with applicable laws, regulations, guidelines, and standards regarding safety and infection control issues.
