New England Donor Services (NEDS) coordinates organ and tissue donation in Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, the eastern counties of Vermont and Bermuda. Responsible for one of the largest of the 57 Organ Procurement Organizations (OPOs) that make up the nation\xe2\x80\x99s donation system, NEDS works with about 200 hospitals and serves 14 million people in our region, screening nearly 50,000 potential donor referrals annually. With approximately $90M in operating revenues, NEDS employs 250 clinical and non-clinical staff members throughout New England.

The full-time Clinical Director On-Call (CDOC) is responsible for the clinical assessment of potential organ donors for medical suitability and pertinent risk factors that may impact recipients. In collaboration with the daily clinical call team, the CDOC determines patient eligibility for organ donation, guides clinical management of organ donor patients, oversees the plan for each donor while on call and works to overcome logistical barriers that may present throughout the donation process.

This is a fully remote position ideal candidate will have the ability to work remotely within the Eastern time zone.

Supervision

  • Leads the daily call team (including Referral Resource Coordinators, Clinical Responders, Donation Coordinators, Family Services Coordinators, Organ Clinical Coordinators, and Organ Surgical Recovery Coordinators) in meeting daily operational needs to facilitate organ donation.
  • Does not include direct management of staff, however requires close oversight and leadership for the operational team on their assigned call days.
  • Ensures NEDS Standards of Behavior are maintained onsite, and holds staff accountable in real-time to standard work/expectations (timely response onsite, appropriate documentation practices, effective communication and collaboration with hospital and transplant partners toward effective CDP, donor management, and organ recovery practices.)
  • Communicates any deviation from standard behavior or practice to appropriate manager for additional follow-up.
  • Supports onsite staff both clinically and emotionally during their call days. Refers staff to NEDS Counselor where appropriate for real-time intervention.
Administrative
  • Assists with data collection and analysis for weekly Organ Utilization meetings.
  • Responsible for filing quality events where appropriate for performance improvement both internally and with external partners (transplant centers and other OPOs.)
  • May perform other activities or special projects as assigned by the Senior Director, Organ Optimization or Chief Clinical Officer.
Clinical
  • Possesses high-level clinical understanding of the donation process and is able to guide onsite staff in successful management and optimization of organs for transplantation.
  • Is able to read and interpret hospital policies for determination of neurological death and guides staff to ensure potential donor patients are declared appropriately (where applicable.)
  • In collaboration with NEDS Medical Directors, is able to present complex clinical information and determine a clear and cohesive plan for assessing donor risk factors and communicating them (both orally and in writing) to accepting transplant centers.

  • Computer & Application Literacy: Proficiency in TrueNorth, DonorNet, and Microsoft Office Suite. Ability to learn additional systems as needed.
  • Creativity/innovation: Is open to new ideas and innovation. Willing to question status quo approaches and suggest new processes when necessary. Can see problems from new perspectives and generate helpful insights into problems.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
  • Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science degree required. Advanced degree preferred.
  • A minimum of 5 years\xe2\x80\x99 experience in clinical or OPO setting required.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
  • CPTC certification preferred
Driving Requirements
  • Required to travel by personal vehicle to meet some of the duties and responsibilities of this position. Must hold valid state driver\'s license and current minimum coverage for personal automobile.
