Position Summary: Supports Port Houston\xe2\x80\x99s mission to drive regional prosperity by cultivating productive relationships with identified communities and stakeholder groups. Implements, and administers outreach strategies, programs, and initiatives. Plans, coordinates, and represents the organization at community and education outreach events. Key Responsibilities/Duties:

  • Actively engage the public and local stakeholders to identify and implement local partnerships which support the organization\xe2\x80\x99s mission, vision and strategic goals.
  • Assist the Managers, Community Relations & Education Outreach, with developing and managing the implementation of a strategic community engagement program aligned with Port Houston\xe2\x80\x99s Community and Stakeholder Engagement Plan, focused on programs and activities deemed vital to the development and promotion of the port, its waterways and/or its terminals.
  • Serve as supporting capacity for special events, such as receptions (non-sales-related), groundbreakings, commissioner events and other special port sponsored and education outreach events.
  • Assist with pursuit and maintenance of local partnerships with local stakeholders, including community and civic leaders, non-profit entities, education partners, and business organizations.
  • Coordinate briefings and tours of the Port for community and educational groups, as well as local officials and business associations.
  • Help process and keep up with feedback mechanisms, including the Community Information Line, fielding calls, routing requests and providing follow-up information; maintain detailed records utilized for quarterly/annual reports.
  • Coordinate and work with other departments within the organization to drive effective external communications.
  • Maintan internal and external promotional materials and business collateral such as speakers packets, presentations and community handouts.
  • Help maintain contacts and database for local municipalities, community organizations and local chambers of commerce.
  • Assist with administration of departmental budget, monitor expenses and report significant variances to assure conformance with approved budget.
  • Serve as a liaison for other departments within Port Houston that utilize Promotion and Development funds.
  • Pursue professional development opportunities and professional memberships (i.e. Corporate Community Relations Council and local board memberships) to further represent and promote the Port and continue professional development.
  • Perform other duties as needed.
Education/Experience:
  • Bachelor\xe2\x80\x99s degree in Business Administration, Communication, Sociology, Public Administration, or related major in a public or accredited private academic institution required
  • 4+ years related community engagement or public administration experience required
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) strongly desired
