community engagement as a Community Relations Specialist!
The , Park Maintenance and Recreation Services Division, is hiring a Community Relations Specialist II position located at Kapolei Hale. This position assists in planning and implementing the division's community engagement program, which includes community relations, public education and outreach, liaison and engagement with various city and external agencies and community groups, disseminating information through various media.Examples of duties of a Community Relations Specialist II, include but are not limited to the following:

  • Outreach to the general public, schools and community groups towards increasing participating in division community engagement programs.
  • Conducting internal and external surveys to assess program success.
  • Partnering with Federal, State and City agencies on coordinated education, outreach efforts and community engagement projects.
  • Promoting community-wide interest in community engagement programs and assists the Public Information Officer with developing marketing strategies for program success via various media outlets such as public service announcements, radio, television, newspaper, website and social media outlets.
  • Assisting in planning and implementing the division's community engagement program to include but not limited to Adopt-A-Park of developed and undeveloped park land, community service projects, Bench Donation, Planting Program and division park clean-up events, etc.
  • Conducting staff training of policies and procedures related to community engagement programs.
  • Utilizing light motorized vehicle to travel to island-wide sites to conduct trainings and attend conferences, etc.

Equivalent to graduation from a regionally-accredited four year college or university with major work in business or public administration, the social sciences or a related field.Education obtained outside of the United States must be comparable to a degree earned at a regionally-accredited college/university in the United States. EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT:
Two (2) years of responsible experience involving community or public service, social assistance or similar programs.Applicable Skills:
  • Knowledge of basic government functions, programs and services.
  • Knowledge of characteristics and peculiarities of the community served; the structure, functions and purposes of community organizations and interest groups.
  • Ability to plan, organize and coordinate work; and work under stressful conditions.
  • Ability to meet and deal tactfully and effectively with leaders of community, civic and other interest groups.
  • Ability to evaluate effectiveness of program and recommend improvements.
  • Ability to keep records and prepare reports.
LICENSE REQUIREMENT:
Valid Hawaii driver's license (Type 3), prior to appointment.EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE EVALUATION:
