Job Description


This is a 6.25 hours per day, 180 days per year, Conditional Paraeducator position with benefits at Columbia Elementary School for the 2023 - 2024 school year. Anticipated start date will be the first day of school, September 6, 2023.

Hours for this position are 8:45 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.

The successful candidate will support the teacher and support students with medical needs, behavior, communication, functional and academic skills.

Minimum Qualifications: Experience working with children in a school setting.

Preferred Qualifications: Experience working with school-aged children with special needs.

JOB SUMMARY:

Assist the teacher with planning, preparation and delivery of a quality instructional program based upon state standards, district curriculum, and effective instruction for students with diverse learning needs. Supervise students at recess, in the cafeteria, library, assistance for students riding the bus, and perform crossing guard duties before and after school. May assist with implementation of special education services for students i.e., IEP goals, medical assistance, physical support and personal care.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Assist teacher(s) with the daily supervision of students for the purpose of maintaining and providing a safe and positive learning environment.
  • Under the teacher\'s direction, administer multiple student tests, collect and maintain diagnostic and test data, update student records, and assess student progress.
  • Assist teacher(s) with monitoring and managing student behavior and progress; share observations with teacher(s) and other professional staff.
  • Assist teacher(s) with implementation of various strategies to address diverse student needs and support individual educational growth and achievement goals.
  • Provide clerical and general classroom assistance for staff, which may include collection and data entry of information, correspondence, copying, filing, and preparation of classroom materials.
  • Administer first aid, medical assistance, physical support and personal care for the purpose of providing appropriate care for ill, medically fragile, and/or disabled children.
  • Provide physical assistance for students with special needs such as feeding, toileting, proper lifting and positioning of students in and out of chairs and with adaptive equipment; assist students with the use specific equipment related to their disability (e.g., materials, assistive technology, visual aids).
  • Track and dispense authorized student medications.
  • Perform crossing guard duties before and after school to supervise and monitor students.
  • Assist with monitoring students in the cafeteria and/or at recess; assist with maintaining a clean and orderly environment for student safety and well-being.
  • Participate in meetings and training for the purpose of sharing information, improving the employee skills and knowledge, implementing school initiatives and addressing student needs.
  • Comply with District Policies.
  • Maintain consistent presence at assigned worksite and regularly work hours specified.
  • May be subject to reassignment of job duties depending on program, building and student needs.
  • Such other related job duties as assigned by supervisor(s).
Job Requirements: Minimum Qualifications

  • Demonstrated knowledge of math, spelling, reading, grammar, and punctuation.

  • Ability to positively and professionally interact with students, supervisors, and staff.

  • Demonstrated ability to effectively manage student behavior.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail and meet deadlines in an atmosphere of frequent interruptions.
  • Ability to operate or willingness to learn to operate standard classroom equipment.
  • Ability to provide for the physical, health and safety needs of students.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide physical assistance for and properly lift students in and out of chairs in accordance with safe lifting requirements and the use of adaptive equipment as required.
  • Knowledge of computer applications used to assist with student learning.
  • Ability to strengthen job-related competencies.
Education/Certification:
  • High school diploma or its equivalent.
  • Two years of study at an institution of higher education (72 quarter credits or 48 semester credits), or have obtained an associate\'s (or higher) degree or have successfully passed the Para Pro Assessment developed by the Educational Testing Service (ETS).
  • Depending on assignment, may be required to complete behavior modification programs, including safe physical restraining techniques and/or other training as required.
