SUMMARY OF POSITION

THE ROLE:

As a Construction Inspector, you will play a critical role in performing inspections on construction projects to enforce City policies and standards to ensure safety of our residents.

The ideal candidate for this role will have 1 year of technical engineering experience at a level equivalent to an Engineering Technician and 2 years of practical experience in construction and/or construction inspection, and the ability to foster a culture based on integrity and respect. You will collaborate with both the engineering department and development services to accomplish the position goals. Upon acceptance of a conditional job offer, must be able to pass a background check, drug screen, and have an acceptable driving record.

REQUIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: (Any equivalent combination of education and experience, which provides the applicant with the knowledge, skills and abilities required to perform the job.):

• One (1) year of technical engineering experience at a level equivalent to an Engineering Technician
• Two (2) years practical experience in construction and/or construction inspection
• Valid Washington State driver\'s license or ability to obtain one in Washington State prior to employment

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

• Associate of Arts Degree in construction management or related field
• Previous municipal experience

• 12 days of vacation during the 1st year of employment and 12 days of sick leave which are available for use upon accrual
• 10 holidays, plus each employee receives 1 floating holiday each year
• Washington State Department of Retirement Systems (DRS), which offers a guaranteed monthly benefit once vesting criteria has been met
• In addition to DRS, employees may also contribute to a 457 Deferred Compensation Plan, that offers a pre-tax contribution of 3% from the City

SAFETY/WORK CONDITIONS:

• Work is primarily performed in the field where there is exposure to heavy equipment, dust, noise, varying weather conditions, terrain and/or traffic
• Frequently walks on uneven surfaces and to walk/climb on unconsolidated footing
• Work is also performed in an office environment while stationed at a desk using a computer
• Post offer, pre-employment medical exam and/or drug screen for positions which may have essential job duties that can impact both their own safety and the safety of others
