What We Are Seeking - We are seeking two Construction Design EngineersLocation and hours - Camp Dodge, 7105 NW 70th Ave, Johnston, IA 50131. Flexible schedule - 40 hours a week - some telework possible, but not guaranteed.Who We Are:
Our Agency directly supports the readiness of Iowa Army National Guard units and Soldiers, providing project and construction management support so they are able to fulfill their missions at fully modern facilities in Iowa\'s communities, or their work for the State during emergencies or times of need. We are made strong by a highly qualified, diverse and talented staff. Working at the Iowa Department of Public Defense will provide you the opportunity for a robust career! What You\'ll Do:
The selectee will work with soldiers of the Iowa Army National Guard and help them prepare for their defense of our great nation by managing facilities maintenance and construction programs. You also get the chance to work with many great design professionals from firms across Iowa and the Midwest. Perhaps most importantly, you will be joining an experienced and dedicated team of professionals that develop project scopes, define and enforce project parameters, and then manage the design and construction firms through to project completion. This position will have offices at historic Camp Dodge in a newly constructed office setting, with all of the tools needed to perform at your highest level. While our organization is not on the cutting edge of design and aesthetics (our activities dictate certain layouts and materials for durable and useful facilities), many of our projects require LEED Silver certification from the US Green Building Council and require great imagination to solve often difficult design problems. The team you will be joining consists of two architects, a mechanical engineer, a civil engineer, an interior design professional, and HVAC professionals steeped in management of building control systems. This team has successfully led construction and major renovation of nearly 2 million square feet over the last 25 years, so you will be learning the ropes from highly skilled and experienced people. This position will have a split focus, with about half of time spent managing facilities management and operational requirements for Camp Dodge Building A-1 (our headquarters building), and our facilities in West Des Moines, the Des Moines Airbase, Perry, and Boone, and the other half managing assigned design and construction projects. The selectee will travel to assigned facilities and work with other CFMO staff to manage maintenance and operation tasks for assigned facilities. You will develop project scopes of work (SOW). These SOW\'s will then be briefed to office leadership for them to slot into their master order of merit listing. Once a project has been selected for execution, the selectee will route the SOW to a design consultant firm to solicit a proposal for design services. After the design firm fee is negotiated and the firm contracted, the selectee acts as the Owner\'s representative with all stakeholders, to include end user groups, the consultant, and any interested National Guard or state agencies (we work a lot with the State Fire Marshal\'s office). The goal of the design process is to get the project ready for open bidding. The selectee will oversee the bidding and addenda process up to bid day. Selectee will assist leadership evaluate the bids and recommend award of a construction contract. After award, selectee will manage the construction process again as the Owner\'s representative. These tasks include establishing and chairing meetings as required, project site inspections, management of project submittals (we use Submittal Exchange for this), attendance at progress meetings, change order management, and so on. The selectee will remain assigned to the project through substantial completion until final acceptance.
A valid driver\'s license is required for the position as some travel will be involved. Also, a basic background check will be conducted, which is a requirement for the selectee to obtain a common access card (CAC). The CAC allows the selectee to access federal computer networks where our work products are stored. What We Offer:
