This is what we strive for in all of the connections we create for our guests and for each other.What will your compensation be?: $18.50 per hourWhen does this adventure begin?: This role is posted for our spring/summer 2025 season!What will you do in this job?: This is a remote, boat-in position located in Kenai Fjords National Park. Due to this, all positions at KFWL require assisting in other departments.Engaged in preparing and cooking food to ensure an efficient and profitable food service. The Fox Island Cook is responsible for preparing the food served at the Day Lodge or Kenai Fjords Wilderness Lodge and for employee meals. Ensures guests receive a consistent high quality dining experience and aids in the daily activities of the kitchen and the facility. Assists in coordinating and facilitating that the island is safe and highly enjoyable for guests, facilities are clean and well maintained, necessary supplies are on hand, and waste is minimized.

• Provide excellent customer service to guests and other team members
• Make sound judgments and anticipate issues and opportunities
• Work closely with all other departments to ensure overall guest satisfaction
• Ensure that guests' special needs are met
• Primarily responsible to prepare, cook, and clean after all meals
• Maintain clean and sanitary food preparation facilities. Keep kitchen, food preparation and storage areas in strict adherence with health regulations
• Conduct other duties as required, including opening and closing duties
• Observes methods of food preparation and cooking, sizes of portions, and garnishing of foods to ensure food is prepared in prescribed manner
• Arrive to work on time, ready to work, dressed in clean uniform, with a neat and clean appearance
• Participate in emergency response activities including firefighting, emergency medical activities (within an employee's training limitations) and other incidents
• Other duties as assigned

What skills and experience do you need for this job?:

• Valid Alaska Food Handler's Certification, ServSafe Managers certificate preferred
• Knowledge of proper food handling and preparations standards
• Current CPR, First Aid
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
• Culinary School graduate or previous experience working as a cook in food service operations, or equivalent combination of experience and training
• Must be able to push, pull, carry and lift objects weighing up to 50 pounds on a regular basis, and greater weights on an occasional basis
