Position Summary

The Coordinator, International Student Programs provides support for international and intercultural programming and services within the office of student diversity, equity, and inclusion by organizing and facilitating programs, training, support, and guidance to our international student community, historically underrepresented students, and student leaders; provides supervision for student employees including hiring, training and ensuring efficient execution of duties.

Core Responsibilities

International Student Programming | 30%

  • Develops and implements programs for international students.
  • Serves as a lead staff for planning and delivery of a comprehensive pre-orientation program for international students and other targeted student populations.
  • Delivers follow-up programs to supplement topics after pre-orientation such as mentoring, community building activities, and personal and professional development.
  • Assist with navigation of systems on campus and the community providing the resources to easily access them and be able to function well and successfully on campus and outside of WU.
  • Provide support and non-academic advising for our international students.
  • Organize off-campus events.
  • Organize monthly luncheons in the ISC to allow students share their cultures with the Whitworth community.
  • Supports students in their spiritual life.
Cultural Diversity Advocates | 30%
  • Assists in the hiring process, training, and ongoing leadership development for Cultural Diversity Advocates.
  • Hire, train, and supervise the Cultural Diversity Advocates student leadership team.
  • Coordinate student work schedules, provide training, professional development and assign work responsibilities.
  • Responsible for approving all time entries
  • Maintain close interactions with CDAs to assure the delivery of programs and the mentoring of first year students.
International Club Advising |15%
  • Serve as advisor to the International Club.
  • Ensures the mission and vision of the club aligns with Whitworth core values.
  • Assist in organizing events.
  • Support the officers in their planning of events.
  • Advise on the implementation of the annual International Festival.
Administrative Support | 15%
  • Serve as a designated school official (DSO), provide immigration-related advising, SEVIS updates, and general support to F-1 international students, in collaboration with office of international education staff.
  • Provide information on the student employment processes in collaboration with Student Employment.
  • Assist international students with applying for social security, filing taxes, banking, and medical insurance.
  • Share information with and work collaboratively with the office of international education.
Other | 10%
  • Assist with special projects and department events.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications | Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Associates degree, or high school diploma and 3 years of experience working with and interacting with international and historically underrepresented student populations in an educational setting
  • 2 years of professional experience working and interacting with international and historically underrepresented student populations in an educational setting.
  • A personal commitment to the Christian faith and to the integration of faith and learning
  • Demonstrated growth in cultural competence, awareness of societal and structural inequities and proven experience in effectively establishing relationships and positive communications with students and other constituents across multiple dimensions of diversity including, but not limited to, race, gender, varying abilities, nationality, sexual orientation, gender identity, class or religious perspectives
  • A commitment to the educational mission of Whitworth University as a comprehensive Christian liberal arts university affiliated with the Presbyterian church
  • Create an environment that acknowledges, encourages, and celebrates differences
  • Function and communicate effectively and respectfully within the context of varying beliefs, behaviors, orientations, identities, and cultural backgrounds.

Position Details

Schedule
Position is a 10-month appointment (August-May) working 30 hours per week.
